2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Re: 2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Found this in the inbox...
One day, a man came home and was greeted by his wife dressed in a very Sexy nightie.

“Tie me up,” she purred, “and you can do anything you want.”

So he tied her up and went golfing.

Apparently there is talk of banning the belly putter in PGA play: http://espn.go.com/golf/pgachampionship12/story/_/id/8247206/2012-pga-championship-webb-simpson-bristles-talk-belly-putter-ban

But as is pointed out in the article:
But no player in the current top 10 of the PGA Tour's strokes-gained putting category and just three in the top 20 use a long or belly putter. The strokes-gained stat measures players against the number of putts a PGA Tour player is expected to make from every distance.

I doubt they end up banning it.

What's the most you've ever paid for a golf round? And where was it?

I still play the local muni's so I can't contribute - and until I get a lot better (bogey golf) I'm not going to a big course.

I paid $90.00 w/ cart to play the Shenendoa course at Turning Stone. Absolutely beautiful. There are 3 courses there and the other 2 are supposedly nicer.

I switched to a belly putter about 6 weeks ago thinking it would help make 5 footers automatic since that was what I was struggling with. What I've found is that those can actually be a bit tougher now (you really have to concentrate on form), but its much better from distance. It seems like the bigger the arc the more it helps.

Personally I think they should be banned, but as long as they are here I'll continue to use one.

Joost Luiten is leading an event. Sure its the middle of the first round. But that's an amazing name. :D

Phil has to be every duffer's favorite golfer.

Had a little fun playing Kiawah online at World Golf Tours. Poor man's way to see the course and get a little feel for the approaches to the greens, front nine at least.

Does anyone look at that name and think, "I should pronounce this 'Yost Loyten?'

I agree. I've been playing on WGT for awhile, and it is a lot of fun. They also have a tournament going on right now for a trip to Kiawah...I'm only 14 shots out in 1,253rd place :p:D:D If you like gaming and golf, it is a great way to kill time at work.

Rory is lapping the field at Kiwah.

Also, anyone notice some dude screaming Baba Booey during his tee shot?

Why is this happening???

When I make a divot (or top the ball) I want the divot / trench to look like this |

However, a lot of times it looks like this \ (I'm a righty).

It looks like I'm outside / inning my swing, but it does not feel that way. Is my club face closed on contact????

divot is swing plane, not club face. you are indeed coming over the top.

My group won the last Monday night's scramble @ Bridgton Highlands Country Club, Bridgton ME. 6 under for 9...4 birdies and an eagle. I won closest to the pin. Does my $13 in prize money mean I need to turn pro?;)

No, but you have to declare the $13 as other income on your tax return. :)

Mookie, thanks for the advice. Played 9 holes today (43 par 34) and was conscious of dropping the right shoulder on the downswing. It worked! Balls were going straight.

Re: 2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Mookie - can't thank you enough. Now hitting everything mostly straight, except for a slight fade on the driver.

Went to this course yesterday. Played the senior (green) tees and hit 7 GIR's on the way to an 88 with 4 mulligans (so an adjusted 92). Last few times I've played this course, it's been 100-110.

I think the longest course I could play and enjoy myself is around 6,000 yards. I just don't have the distance on the irons (6I is 125-130) to warrant anything longer. On some courses its a challenge to find the tees at that distance because they're set up for the boomers and I am not a boomer.

I'm working with this course to devise a series of white/gold tees to get a course between 5,800 and 6,000 yards. Hope the pro, who loves Tee It Forward, will go for it.

Again thank you and to all the others here who are helping this aged rookie get back into the game.
