2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Re: 2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

I played Bethpage Black on media day before the 2002 Open. I always say I spent more time on the beach that day than Annette and Frankie! :D

It was fun watching on TV and saying, "Hey, I was in that trap/rough."
Even though this shows my age, I will be plagiarizing this line in the future. Unfortunately, I will probably have too many opportunities to utilize it, but a great line none the less..

Wonder how we'd do @ Royal Lytham & St. Annes with its 200+ bunkers?

I was watching the BMW International from Cologne, GER today. The Germans appeared to be stuck in the bunker.

Re: 2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Today my son and I wanted to commit murder on the golf course. The threesome ahead of us decided that it was OK to play multiple balls until we got to the tee area, then they hit for real. They would then drive down the hole picking up errant shots. Every bleepin hole we had to wait for the idiots to clear before we could tee off. Backed up the entire course behind them. Since it was the recreation course (9 holes) no course marshal was present.

On the good side, I figured out how to hit and control my fairway woods and hybrids. Driver was fading, but I got that under control later in the round. Oh and I holed out for a birdie with a chip shot from about 30 yards.

Oh, and 305 is a long way for me to get there accurately.
When that happens to us, my dad always tells me "why don't you speed them up a little bit?" And I hit a drive either into them or over their heads. If they say anything he tells them that they're lucky he didn't call the club house and get them booted for slow play. It pays to be a member and shareholder.

Re: 2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Question. I have been getting quite a bit of loft from my 10.5* driver this summer. Since it has been hot and dry where I live and often windy, I thought I'd try teeing it up lower to get a lower drive and more roll. I've tried that two outings and the range, and I seem to be going right with it a lot-not a slice, just going right with possibly a little fade. I'm making pretty good contact, but I'm not getting a draw and I'm staying right (and usually not a low drive either). I tried flattening my swing a little to bring a little draw into it, but it didn't do much.

I'm not a very experienced golfer, and this is probably just another one of those many swing defects I have that's come for a visit. But I find it kind of interesting and wonder if any of you have a logical explanation. I have not changed where I am placing the ball in my stance (still inside front foot), and I thought maybe I'm holding off on turning my hands over a little to keep the club lower and pushing the ball right as a result. Might bring the ball back a little in the stance when I'm teeing it up low. Thoughts?

Played today. We were down $26 at the turn and ended up winning $5. Playin 5/2 I picked up 3 dots on 16 and 3 on 18. My shoulder is holding up nicely.

Tee it Forward Guidelines:

This chart is a guideline to help golfers align their average driving distance with the course length best suited to their abilities.

Driver Distance Recommended 18-Hole Yardages

275.................6,700-6,900
250.................6,200-6,400
225.................5,800-6,000
200.................5,200-5,400
175.................4,400-4,600
150.................3,500-3,700
125.................2,800-3,000
100.................2,100-2,300

Based on this I should be playing 5,200 - 5,400. I'm "playing up" one level tomorrow. If I break 100, I will be shocked. Slope is 121 with a 69.0 rating.

Leaving PA a loser. Lost today in the semifinals. I played a great 16 holes and was leading the other team 1up when I boned a wedge over the green and couldn't get up and down to match their par. Then the older dude birdied 18 and there was nothing left for me to do except head east. 1 over thru 16 and bupkis to show for it except congratulations on the effort. Hate golf sometimes.

Re: 2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Played 2 rounds of golf this week. Neither was spectacular. Im doing ok up around the greens but have been errant with drives a lot and with some of my irons. Before I played the 2nd round I hit the driving range and was able to figure out some stuff. I needed to be turning a bit more in the hips and shoulders and am now getting more accurate drives. I still get some going off right (I tend to lead with my hands to much and not get enough turning so I just push it in that case) but its not as bad as it was. Hoping to hit the range more to keep working on it.

Awesome, I'm supposed to play from the longest tees possible. That would really **** up my golf game more than it already is. :p
