Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

It's all about Virginia and probing news right now.

You gotta love the GOP...if Michelle Obama says kids should eat better food and exercise more that is government intrusion somehow. Sticking a wand up a woman's vajayjay for an ultrasound she doesnt want to try and convince her not to have an abortion though, that is not intrusive at all. And the fact that it is mandated by the government means little.

That Virginia bill is everything the GOP claims Obama Care is and then some but hey who cares they are only women

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

The Virginia bill is just more proof that these guys want their way, period -- it isn't about small government or personal liberty, that was all just a fig leaf. The marriage between Biblical theocons and Constitutional libertarians was always a marriage of convenience. This bill is a test of which side a given politician is on. If he supports it, all well and good, he's a theocon. But he is not a small government conservative.

The entire GOP seems to be lining up behind the bill because they are terrified of being primaried by the fundies in their districts. So basically none of this is about principle in the end -- it's just pure pandering. Republican Congressmen, Senators, and their media and staff enablers go back home at night to Georgetown, send their kids to Ivy League schools, and don't believe any of this Christian Taliban nonsense. But it's the tiger they picked to ride. That's usually the way ultra-right wing groups get a beachhead in democratic societies.

The ironic thing is that those guys would be the first up against the wall if the Jesus mullahs ever actually took power. Fanatical groups tend to purge in before they explode out.

That's probably why when the GOP had Congressional hearings there WERE NO WOMEN ALLOWED TO TESTIFY.

To be fair, if they were GOP witnesses they were probably half closeted gays. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Look, if all the gals would just accept that God made the man the captain and the woman the first mate, this would all be solved. Of course he's going to decide these things for you, kitten.

After all, the Lord said so.

I agree absolutely, 100%, completely, and in all other ways with your larger point, but an ultrasound does not involve sticking wands anywhere - just a nice, relaxing belly massage that everyone everywhere should enjoy being forced upon them by an overzealous government.

You should check up on your facts. Since this is a first trimester ultrasound a Transvaginal ultrasound is performed and that's what the Virgina law calls for. Read about how the test is performed at the link.

This law is going to provide plenty of wands being stuck inside women.

Mental health break. The one and only sexy picture of Hillary Clinton, in the history of the world, ever, the end.

Virginia Governor is wimping out. Add him to another long list of Republicans who won't put their support behind their real beliefs.

In this case I think it's the opposite.

McDonnell is a real up-and-comer (so to speak). This is a fascinating political decision. If Obama wins this year McDonnell's going to be a serious as a heart attack candidate for the 2016 GOP nominee. This is him stepping back from the abyss.

He's wimping out. Now he's in a no-win situation. Says so right in the article. His only hope is that the Bill doesn't come to his desk. If the Bill does come to his desk his career will be severely hurt regardless if he signs it or not. Once this door is opened you either go all in or you shut it down right away. He screwed up and he's going to pay for it unless his Legislature can bail him out.

Meanwhile the men on the hill won't allow us to hear women testify on the birth control issue.

http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/22/10476406-gop-shuts-down-sandra-fluke-again

In other words, the House GOP blocked Sandra Fluke from testifying at a hearing last week, and now they're apparently blocking the public from hearing Sandra Fluke's testimony at another hearing this week.

The GOP has gone stark raving mad on social issues.

State legs have been known to stall/derail bills they want passed in order to cut a deal for other stuff down the line (yeah I know, "Say it isn't so!")

The VA GOP has an east-west problem in addition to its moderate-radical problem. The southwest of VA might as well be Alabama, while Fairfax Cty may as well be Connecticut. It's a weird state -- very easy to run locally, but terribly difficult to run statewide.

I dunno whether McConnell really believes all the silly stuff he's written about the littany of social consy attitudes (he went to Regent ferchirssakes! What are you going to write to get an 'A' there, "A Room of One's Own"?) He's a born politician and he knows how to tweak the deep red base. Also, True Believers do not backpeddle on stuff like this. The real theocons aint kidding around -- they actually believe in the Prince of Liars, and that a sadistic thunder god will burn their immortal souls forever if they don't force everyone to do the right thing with their wee-wees.

Minnesota is very similar. Maybe they can do what the GOP did here and get everything on the ballot. We have a gay marriage amendment in November and they're working on a voter photo ID amendment.

Maybe they can get a vaginal probe amendment on the ballot in Virginia.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

My brother lives in VA and his wife is furious about this whole thing. She lives near Williamsburg so I don't know the lay of that land politically, but she's fuming because it's invasive.

Well I'll be. Wonder why they never show THOSE on Doctor shows...

My bad.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Hey, it's a great soundbyte if you're running for President of Evangelicals and Tea Party Zealots. If running for POTUS, not so much.

I almost feel sorry for the Republicans with every not-Romney candidate they become enamored with. Serial-Liar-with-no-legislative-record-Bachman, Foreign-policy dunce and womanizer Cain, Debating-challenged, dim-bulb Perry and now an undisciplined idealogue in Santorum who clearly lives in bubble and embodies everything that people feared 62 years ago when a Catholic ran for president. Kennedy's campaign and presidency never justified those fears, but my-way-or-you're-evil Santorum does.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I don't see it (this issue) being the breaker. .
If gas hits 5.00 bucks, stick a fork in Maine. Their won't be a spare nickle for most folks to spend on anything but groceries and gas. The economy hits the ****ter once again and it won't matter who the other candidate is. I realize Maine isn't the key to Obamas reelection but I doubt Maine is the only state that folds up as a result of 5 dollar gas.
