Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Also no beatings in the well of the Senate.

TV made the conventions no fun -- now they are just sanitized corporate ads where everything but the D/R logo is the same. I'm sure the conference rooms where the platform is hammered out, and where cameras are not allowed, are still a riot.
Now, now. Sometimes one of them has red balloons and one of them has blue!

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

So, you'd have to be a baby boomer? Well, in that case you run the country as it is and decide all the candidates. I think it's plenty relevant.

More than that. You'd have to be baby boomer born in the early part of that generation, as someone born in 1964 wouldn't remember him. Furthermore, you'd have to still live in Michigan and be somebody who fondly recalls the Romney governorship (which may have changed from your view 50 years ago). Lastly, you'd also have to apply your warm feelings for the father to the son. I'm guessing there's not a heckuva lot of these people still around.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I'm still amazed that Frothy got this far.

Agreed, but look at the competition. What's more amazing is that he's doing it on a shoestring budget.

That's the worrysome part about Romney that pundits don't get. If he was having trouble running against Jeb Bush and Chris Christie for the nomination, I'd cut him some slack. He's running against Newt "Two time loser" Gingrich and Rick Sanitarium and still can't put them away.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Care to explain why? Michigan would be much worse off right now without the bailout. I don't get it.
As mentioned in the story, the auto bailouts are thought of as a free gift of taxpayer money from Barry Owebama to the labor union thugs, at the expense of honest, hardworking Ford employees and their hungry children who stand on their own two feet and work for a living. basically.

also in that story: "a mere 29% consider Romney a Michigander".

Wow. Free gift to the labor unions and they have the highest profits ever? Seems totally counter intuitive to me. Doesn't Ford have union labor as well??

Me either. I'm guessing process of elimination. Santorum's spiel might be starting to wear thin. However, he should carry the western Lower (evangelical country.)

No way in hell R-money takes MI in the general, though.

Yeah, Ford here representing 'all companies that didn't take bailout money'. there's a significant portion that will never forgive GM for selling out to The Man.
People see GM pulling in record profits and assume the taxpayers are providing them at the government's command. Like the whole extra Volt subsidy fiasco. It creates a lot of mistrust. To make matters worse, there's a rumor that Ford was ordered by an Obama-appointed judge to stop claiming not to have accepted bailouts in their advertising. Although I don't know about that.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Saw something interesting today where Mittens is burning up his cash 3 times faster than he's collecting it. Given that he has very few small donors, the worry is that his fat cats might get maxed out long before the general election if the primary keeps going.

I'll also reiterate, Romney has had the ad wars pretty much to himself as Obama really isn't up and running yet and his primary opponents are broke. What's that concept of "diminishing returns" again?

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Santorum is a proper pick for the GOP. He represents their values. Romney in no way does that.

No judge ever issued such an order, Obama-appointed or otherwise.
The White House said they had nothing to do with it.
Ford has since stated that the ad was pulled as part of its normal rotation and is available on Youtube.

It took me less than five minutes using a Google search to learn all this and post it. Maybe, before you post GOP talking points in the future, you can do a little research to judge the validity of those statements.

This is not directed at geezer, but some right wing doofus most likely started this rumor thinking it was 2004 all over again and the Dem campaign would wait for the MSM to sort out what is true and what isn't, all the while the story festered for weeks.

I'm just saying, that's the spirit in which GM and the bailouts are perceived in outstate Michigan. The truth of it as posted here is irrelevant.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Haven't been listening as much as I usually do but when I was listening to NPR they made a point of saying that altho many thought of Michgan as Romney's home state he didn't seem to really have one- he has been everywhere after MI- and gave a rundown of where he had lived, how long, etc. The local NPR also had a series of stuff on Romney when he was here that was fairly even handed. I don't care where he came from or where he goes to as long as it isn't Penn Ave. His whole policy while here was nix the budget/ various programs now and have no plan when it all falls apart later- run away and try to be President. The dude f 'd up Mass and we are picking up the pieces still.

Add- on the news now... The bit about the 'insider' Santorum kills me. Romney is only not one of those because he never won to get there. He is certainly a lifer as far as politics goes. Either he is running or getting ready to. When was the last time he wasn't doing either?

FYP no one cares about the truth unless it is as they know it.

There was nothing as blatant as a court order.

Supposedly, the White House back-channeled displeasure over the ad. Ford denies that they pulled it due to pressure. Who knows.

The gist of it was that Mulally was one of the biggest cheerleaders for the bailout. Running an anti-bailout ad campaign was a dicey strategy anyway, with Mulally's testimony a matter of public record. My guess is Ford realized that there was no sense escalating that war. Especially since the media was doing a good job on their behalf, anyway (pointing out that Ford didn't receive a bailout).
