Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Michaud, Pingree and Baldacci have all taken out papers for Senate. Who the heck is advising Baldacci on this one? What terrifies me is that he probably still has the machine geared up enough to turn out the vote for him in a primary, but I'd be shocked if he could clear 20% in a general election.

No, no, no!

I'd prefer Pingree stay where she is and run for Susan's seat when she retires.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I don't get the cluelessness of Romney's campaign people:

In Wednesday afternoon press call, Romney surrogates hammer Santorum for robo-calling Democrats in Michigan, call for him to return a portion of his Wolverine State delegates.

Mike Turner: "Rick Santorum cheated but he couldn't cheat enough to win....He cheated by asking people who would never vote for him for president by getting them to vote in the Republican primary."

John H. Sununu: "If I may borrow a phrase from Santorum, what he did makes me feel like throwing up, and unlike Santorum, I'm not going to regret what I just did."

Bay Buchanan: "Rick Santorum didn't take this action until he saw that Republican voters were about to reject him."

Look, um Mittens & crew, you already won the Michigan primary, BUT you need Santorum's voters come election time. Exactly what point does it serve blasting the guy a day after that race is over??? Who's running his campaign, high school kids?

You don't know the half of it. Romney voted against Kennedy in a Democratic Primary and laughed about doing it in an interview. Now he's calling the practice that he participated in himself a dirty trick when his opponent ask Democrats to do the same thing. I'll let Jon Stewart explain.

I remember Romney saying that. Oh, wait, I am supposed to forget. (Shades of Big Brother and George Orwell)

I hope during an interview someone asks him about it. I'd like to see his response. I doubt it will happen though.

I'd prefer she'd go play in the road, 295, friday about 5 pm Yarmouth exit overpass, Baldacci can join her, Michaud I can stand and might be able to vote for depending

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Former governor Angus King is very seriously considering running for the Senate as an Unenrolled member. Odds are he will get into the race. Eliot Cutlet is another. Maine AD Steve Abbott is on the short list of potential GOP candidates for either the Senate or Mike Michaud's vacated CD2 seat.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I heard a spokesman for this group coming into work this morning. No idea whether they have some nefarious agenda, but on the very surface of it they seemed like an interesting group to watch. The basic message seems to be: "the Dems are in denial over changing the social safety net and the Republicans are in denial over taxes." That seems pretty uncontroversial to me.

What did Pingree do to you? Pee in your Cheerios?
Baldacci is a has been, he wasn't too popular when he left office so I'm not really sure what he is thinking...

some rumors are going around that Snowe could end up on the American's Elect ticket. They are a recognized political party in Maine, and Eliott Cutler (the independent that would be governor of Maine if the election had been a week or two later) is heavily involved.

You should run.

Seriously, I mean it.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I was planning to parlay my chairmanship of the local Democratic Party and interest in local politics into a seat on the Select Board. With the connections I had locally and in Augusta an eventual run for the State House, probably in 2010 when my rep was term-limited. Then I had a stroke and a CT scan revealed that blob and the rest is history. In one last bit of irony, my successor as town chair HAS used the position to catapult himself to the Board of Selectmen and I would bet he runs for the House in 2014 when that rep is term-limited.

In other news, the Frothy campaign says it raised $9M in February.

Still think you should run.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Matt Dunlap has exited the Senate race, will challenge for the CD2 seat. Still have to think Emily Cain would be the better choice.

No word on King or Cutler...since they won't have a primary deadline they're in no hurry. Democrats and Republicans have until March 15, they have until June 1. King will likely run, Cutler may pass for another chance to challenge LePage in 2014.

The Democratic race is going to be lively with Michaud, Pingree and Baldacci all running (probably). The GOP side is a little more tricky and, so far, pretty quiet.

From the Bangor Daily News:
Interesting talk circulating around Steve Abbott, as well. Last night I heard a resounding chorus of “no, no, no” from most GOP political operatives. This morning, sources very close to Abbott are starting to say “maybe, maybe, maybe.” The key to his potential candidacy will be Peter Cianchette.

If Cianchette runs, Abbott will almost certainly pass on the race and support him. If Cianchette doesn’t run, the door remains wide open for Abbott, and he would have every reason to jump into the race.

Abbott would be a perfect fit for this race in virtually every way. He is unquestionably more fiscally conservative than Senator Snowe, which would undoubtedly make many of her critics happy, but has the same social moderation, which is important for the general election.

He has the political connections, ability to raise money, experience, and intelligence to make one of the most formidable candidates on the Republican side, and as I mentioned yesterday, his time at the University of Maine has extended a great deal more credibility to him, and rounded out his public personality.

Bruce Poliquin will probably run. I know him from his days as the baseball coach at NYA and he is a terrific guy. Not too crazy about his politics so I won't be heartbroken to see him lose. Maybe he can come back to NYA so we can win a few more state championships :p

I listen to Emily Cain on the radio all the time, she doesn't impress me. She is a hockey fan and the sings the Anthem at Alfond once and awhile so she has that going for her.
I hear Bruce on the radio some also, seems smart but talks to fast for me
