Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Say Hello to senator Pingree, that makes me want to vomit

There are 4 Democrats who have announced:

Matt Dunlap - former Secretary of State

State Senator Cynthia Dill

State Rep John Hinck

Ben Pollard - Portland businessman

There are only about two weeks to get signatures to get on the ballot. Neither Michaud nor Pingree have announced.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

local media is best. they know the people and have to live with them everyday. and be accountable.

all the major newsies - Cooper, Couric, Rather, Lauer, Sawyer, Stewart - overwhelmingly liberal. they do have an agenda and they do push it. same as Rush or Hannity et al, but they don't like to admit it publicly.

it always interests me that Fox, Rush, etc have ratings through the roof, but conservatives don't have votes through the roof.

CBS and CNN are currently retooling themselves to be more moderate.

Did you just call Jon Stewart a a "major newsie"? He's a comedian.

Ha ha, you think Stewart is news.

Although this would be just about the best news ever.

Really
Her husband owns most of the newspapers in Maine, has megabucks just waiting to get his darling wife elected and you think those 4 guys are going to stop her,
I'd be shocked if she didn't run, of course I'm shocked Snowe quit..

I don't think any of those four will emerge as legit candidates. If Pingree runs, she probably gets the nomination. She can get the signatures no problem. I don't think she'd be the Dems best choice, but I am not sold at all on any of the Republican candidates.

Between the Presidential election, the first competitive Senate race in over a decade, and gay marriage 2.0 (plus a potentially competitive 2nd district race), this could be a record setting turnout.

I think Pingree gets the nomination and probably the win. I can see Peter Ciancette running for Repubs, not sure who else might throw their hat in, not much time and thats why Pingree has the upper hand, tons of money with or without any organization

The Daily Show isn't news. Good Lord what's happened to this nation?

Supposedly, Fox is as well.

And you answered your own question. Extreme partisans on the right are more motivated to watch narrowcasting (Fox/MSNBC) because they're more displeased with the alternatives.

While Fox dominates the narrowcasting race, it's still a big fish in a small pool. On a given day, even Fox's ratings are destroyed by broadcast news and whatever primetime talent show is on TV that night.

Re: Maine -- it's funny. The hate that populist conservatives have for Snowe and Collins is ridiculous. Those two are a complete gift. They're nowhere near powerful enough to set the overall party agenda, but they count every bit as much as Jim DeMint toward achieving a governing majority. But (apparently) extremists are more interesting in yelling about how besieged they feel by the pollution of ideological purity from politicos like Snowe, Collins and Scott Brown. Much better to purge them, even if it means being in the minority and having actual conservative policy die in committee.

Please tell me hilarity = Santorum landslide.
It means this.

538 still has MI as slight edge Romney (and AZ as heavily Romney), so Mittens should be able to claim a good night.

With the VA and PA legislatures going nutbar central on lady parts, Obama is probably going to win women by 15 points anyway. The national GOP must be considering sending anthrax to the statehouses they control. For godsakes, people, that knuck stuff is only for rhetoric, not policy!

CNN: Less than half of Michigan primary voters "strongly favor" the candidate they voted for.

There's some talk that the Democrat Party has spared no expense in launching a huge get out the vote drive to get Santorum nominated, as a way to roadblock Romney from getting it. Michigan is a good place to do it, with the unions at their beck and call 24/7. But it's hard to say how meaningful the results will really be in the big picture. Will it be enough to get Santorum rolling? Or will they have to gear up new campaigns in other states? The irony is a little mind boggling, especially so if Santorum ends up being elected president.

Also interesting: auto bailouts are still opposed in MI, 51-43%. So Hugo Chavez probably couldn't be elected here.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Is there a provision anywhere in the US Constitution that specifies a candidate has to be a human being?

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) -- A new U.S. Senate candidate in Virginia wears a tie, has a campaign website and even launched an ad. One big difference? He has a thick coat of fur.

Hank the cat has thrown his paw into the race, running to mock the political status quo. The cat's owner, Anthony Roberts, says he and his partner set up the campaign as an inside joke. But the campaign's website has crashed after a recent spate of publicity.

Hank's campaign posters show the Maine Coon gazing upward, wearing a tie. An ad says Hank, a moderate, will work to make sure America stays the greatest land of all.

Hank is running for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. James Webb, a Democrat.

It seems like the Democratic Party prefers numbers to cohesion- they're more willing to suffer a Nelson or a Blanche Lincoln voting with the Republicans occasionally if it means they hold an overall majority.

On the other hand, the Republicans seem to prioritize cohesion to strict numbers. They'd rather not have moderates, but put forth a pure party line.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Polls closed in MI. First precincts reporting now. Frothy with a slight edge. Here we go.
