he found a way to get what he wanted because he truly did not care who got the credit.

I'm convinced that the people who share this viewpoint are a heavy minority in Congress and the White House right now, if they exist at all. Both parties seem more interested in making sure the other doesn't get credit for things going right than they are in making things go right.

Nice of Fishy to bring up Reagan again. Its one thing for me to say most cons are stuck in the 1980's. Its another when they prove my point for me! For example, check this out, regarding the "Soviet" threat from two Mittens advisors. Gee, how long has it been since the Cold War ended??? :D:rolleyes::cool:

Romney's campaign brings up 'Soviet' threat

Posted by
CNN Political Unit
(CNN) - On the same day Vice President Joe Biden knocked Mitt Romney for having a "Cold War mindset," two of Romney's national security advisers made references to threats dating back to the Soviet Union era.

The comments came in a conference call with reporters Thursday morning, ahead of Biden's speech targeting Romney on foreign policy later in the day.

Attacking the Obama administration for "withdrawing in leading the free world," former Navy Secretary John Lehman argued on the call that the president's policies open the nation up to "huge new vulnerabilities."

An example?

"We are seeing the Soviets pushing into the Arctic with no response from us. In fact the only response from us is to announce the early retirement of the last remaining ice breaker," Lehman said.

Also, in a discussion on the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with Russia, former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Pierre Prosper mistakenly referred to a country that no longer exists.

"You know, Russia is another example where we give and Russia gets, and we get nothing in return," he said. "The United States abandoned its missile defense sites in Poland and Czechoslovakia, yet Russia does nothing but obstruct us, or efforts in Iran and Syria."

Czechoslovakia split into two countries–the Czech Republic and Slovakia–in 1993.

Neither country served as a site for the proposed U.S. missile defense system. The U.S. wanted to put part of the system in the Czech Republic, but the country's prime minister canceled a vote in 2009 that would allow the move to take place.

Later that year, the Obama administration decided to scrap the plan in Eastern Europe, which was first proposed by the Bush administration.

The advisers' remarks came after Romney's campaign has had to beat back consistent attacks targeting the candidate as out of touch on matters of foreign policy. The criticism largely stemmed from Romney labeling Russia as the United States' "number one geopolitical foe" last month.

Team Romney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

When we all know the correct viewpoint is that the other side "aren't real Americans."
I don't think I've heard Obama use that specific term for those with different viewpoints, but his comtempt is obvious at times.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

He not a con, he's a libral! God **** bless 'Merica!

For some bizarre reason, you seem to think that liberals and conservatives are antithetical to each other. Usually they work quite well together since their beliefs are complementary.

They merely emphasize different things.

Jefferson, the liberal, and Franklin, the conservative, made a great team.

Reagan was a conservative who invoked liberal ideals to gain their cooperation. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall" evoked a liberal ideal to promote a conservative goal (the end of Mutually-Assured Destruction). Kennedy was a liberal who invoked conservative ideals to gain their cooperation in the showdown with the USSR about nuclear missiles in Cuba. Clinton and Gingrich teamed up to bring us welfare reform, which has worked out far, far better than anyone at the time imagined it possibly could. Even GWB and Teddy Kennedy could team up together to promote education reform ("No Child Left Behind" never would have become law had not both of them devoted their energies and political capital to enacting it).

It is only you "progressives" who behave like trogdolytes, with some absurd devotion to tribal loyalty that brooks no dissent and views compromise as treason.

Your self-congratulatory "witty retort" merely demonstrates once again how bankrupt your "ideas" are when it comes to gaining co-operation outside your smug self-satisfied circle of "superior beings" who know what's better for other people than they do themselves. You want to know why our politics are so contentious these days? Go look in a mirror.

Let me make sure I've got this straight. The GOP says they need a budget that is comprised of at least 55% spending cuts. The Democrats propose a budget that exceeds even that with a budget plan with 75% spending cuts. The GOP refuses, saying it's not good enough. During the debates, the GOP candidates for president are asked if they would take a 10:1 deal and said no. Grover Norquist is making sure everyone who signed his damm pledge understands that it could be 100:1, he doesn't care - NO revenue increase period.

Thus you declare progressives are the "trogdolytes" who can't compromise. That's rich.
Maybe you need to look in that mirror to see who can't compromise.

Republicans are not conservatives. Democrats are not whatever. They are merely job seekers competing for employment by pandering to the voters based on their perceptions of what they think voters want to hear. There are no principles involved for either party; merely opportunisim. if they think it brings them short-term tactical advantage in their search for a job, they'll take it. Neither party cares a whit about the national interest.

Politicians have party labels, short-term coalitions out for self-interest, nothing more. that's the american way at its ugliest. for now we are stuck with it. You want to change it, eliminate the opportunity for people to have an entire career devoted only to politics.

thinkers have ideological tendencies that are not tied to any particular party or politician.

<strike>You've heard this distinction multiple times yet continue to ignore it. have fun with your politics while serious folks discuss serious matters. bye.</strike>

And this is just a common dodge. If they are SOOOO not conservatives why are they the major political party who say they are and are backed by conservatives? Oh that's right, none of them are real conservatives.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

Jefferson, the liberal, and Franklin, the conservative, made a great team.

Sounds like quite a simplification...just a few things pointing to the contrary.

Franklin drafted a Pennsylvania Declaration of Rights, in which he argued that the state had a right to discourage people from acquiring large fortunes on the grounds that it would lead to inequality. The assembly rejected this truly radical idea. He also failed to convince the Continental Congress to make proportional representation the basis of the Articles of Confederation. Franklin was the President of Pennsylvania's Antislavery Society. Based on his time spent in France, definitely not known as a prude.

Jefferson was for a strict interpretation of the constitution and for a smaller governement. He also owned slaves...definitely a time honored tradition.

Romney, still not conservative enough.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

I think FF keeps asking why Obama switched to campaigning from governing.

Most conservative pundits see it differently. They see the governing that he's doing (such as policy to keep student tuitions down) as 'political ploys' vs. just good policy.

Top story from Fox: GOP, Obama in Student Loan Battle

Obama's push to hold down interest rates on federal student loans is met with congressional GOP's counter plan and accusations that the president is using the issue for his re-election campaign

He did more than own them, so there's his "liberal" side. :D

Just for the record: I have no use whatsoever for Grover Norquist. And for the late Jerry Falwell or any of that menagerie of "family values" types. IMHO, they're the right wing equivalent of the Revs--what's in it for them is the primary motivation. Collectively, these people are part of the problem not part of the solution.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

Let's try an analogy, perhaps that will make it easier....

"Conservatives", "liberals" what have you, are like producers of television shows. They want to get their ideas "on the air."

Republicans and Democrats are like advertisers. They want to sell their "product" which is getting elected / re-elected.

So the advertisers pick the television shows they think the public will like. They don't really care that much about the content of the shows, the shows are merely the vehicle by which the product is promoted.

Consequently, there is an inherent and constant tension: the "producers" are always dissatisfied with the "advertisers" for watering down their "artistic integrity" with their money-grubbing pursuit of mammon, while the "advertisers" are annoyed at the "producers" for their naivete because they fail to appreciate the seamy underbelly of what they have to put up with on a day to day basis.

Looks like His Manurespreaderness and his union goon allies are backing off on those proposed ridiculous new farm labor reglations. Read the part about how unions were concerned about the safety of young agricultural workers. Talk about a howler. That's like Leslie Nielsen's nose in "Airplane." The goons don't give a d*amn about the safety of younger agricultural workers. But if farmers aren't able to use young people, they may have to hire older (read: potential union goon) workers. One wonders: is there anything His Itsbushsfaultness is unwilling to do to please his union goon masters? Is Jimmy Hoffa the new Secretary of Agriculture?

You're confusing "GOP" with "conservative" again. It's conservatives that he's saying don't act like trogyl... trogo... idiots. Not Republicans, who obviously do all the time and why conservatives hate the parties.

But anyway, serious question: Why are you allowed to say "Democrats" but you insist I use the long form "Democratics"? (not that I'll stop just because it irritates you, you Democrat).

So, why don't all you conservatives who hate the GOP break off and start a new party? Or work from within to change the party?
You can't have it both ways: support the party at the ballot box (and parrot many of their talking points) and then say you hate the parties.

Hmmm. Maybe because it creates a wonderful diversionary tactic where you can support the GOP while claiming not to? Nah.

As for your other question: if you can't use words correctly, it's no skin off my nose. It just makes you look like an idiot.
