Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

I will slightly disagree here. I want the candidates to be pure and not hide to win the general. I'm actually enjoying the Repub run for the candidacy more this year than every other year. What I fear, however, is Romney will get it cause he's the one snake left in the field.

You do understand they arent being pure right? There are no "pure" candidates running that is why they all stink so much. They want Christie because he is the closest thing to a real candidate and not some faux cartoon version of one the GOP has at the moment.

Seriously, these guys will change their tune when they hit the general so fast it will make your head spin. Cain will have to abandon his "if you arent rich it is your fault" BS because he will get 1% of the vote with it, Perry will have to pretend he has some sort of policy on illegal aliens and so on and well Romney will change his tune every twelve seconds. This field may actually be worse than the Dem field on '04. They dont even have pure idealogues running they are all waiting until the next election.

I mean if you are being ironic or poking fun I am totally with you, but if you are being serious this field is a joke. You could run right now and within two days be the frontrunner without even putting forth a platform. It is Romney against the field and that is because the field basically says "anyone but Romney"!

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

I am poking fun, but at the same time Romney is running a general election campaign in the primary. That's going to cause problems. Does anyone really know what his positions are? Everyone called Kerry a flip-flopper? Please. Romney invented the term.

It's fine if they want to run to the center for the general. By then Obama will have so much video we'll have a fair parsing of the two ideas that Kepler stated. But, with Romney getting the nod it will be much more covert and sinister and I don't like it.

Romney's already getting forced into nutbar land by the nomination process. He's been leg-humping the rotting corpse of PNAC as his "foreign policy," and it's hard to find a brighter line between success and failure than between the Cons' disaster and Obama's diplomatic and military recoveries. Romney's also going to have to fellate the corporate right at the convention ("drill baby, drill"), and he'll have to pick some twanger flavor of the month as his VP to "balance the ticket."

Granting he's a snake, it will still be a very clear choice.

It won't be clear enough for the electorate. Perry would be clear. Bachmann would be clear.

Bachmann's newest health care plan: Have hospitals give away their care.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

It's a good thing libtards never run one way in the primaries and another in the general. Remember that panderfest Al Gore and Bill Bradley had at the Apollo theatre? An event hosted by Al Sharpton? Those two guys engaged in the political equivalent of "Name That Tune." "I can fund this program to guarantee maximum turnout by black voters with 250 billion dollars." "Ha. I can fund this program to guarantee maximum turnout by black voters with 500 billion dollars."

Thing, the word you're looking for is thing.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

The second sentence in this piece may have actually provided the metaphysical summary of what Michelle Bachmann is.

Her former team of New Hampshire staffers who all quit Friday put out a very crabby press release stating that they quit not for the glaringly obvious reasons that Michele Bachmann is a serial pill-snarfing nutcase Space Jesus freak married to a flaming closet case who together make hundreds of thousands of dollars off the government through creepy fake homo-curing clinic rackets and Michele’s shell career as a U.S. Representative who collects a fat public salary and benefits for doing sub-zero quantities of legislative work, BUT — instead — because her national campaign team treated them mean.

I'm trying to figure out what Scooby's unfunny next schtick will be when she finally drops out.

You think I'm trying to be funny?

Rome isn't funny.

Speaking of funny, Old Pio's best buddy Rick Perry is bringing birtherism back. Yay.

I'd say they're as bad as the Dem field in 2004. Some of Romney's positions are just odd, like he's trying too hard. The biggest head scratcher was the criticism of Obama over pulling all the troops out of Iraq. Who the hell still wants US troops there? Especially when they'd be subject to the Iraqi justice system? This is something he's going to have to answer to in a general election matchup, and its a problem he didn't need to create. The public may not weigh foreign policy very high on their priority list nowadays, but if you start creating a reputation of nutball stances on these issues it calls into question your judgement on everything. Romney's staff when he was Mass Gov were never the sharpest tools in the shed. I'm wondering if they're leading him down the wrong path on this one.

That's just the GOP Obama dog whistle. It makes sense in the primary when you're running against the actual Anti-Christ. If Obama honored a girl scout troop they would say "Obama: Playing Games while the Economy Burns." If he didn't, it would be "Obama Hates Kids!" It's one of their signature moves.

And for the general, the easy thing about being the party of destruction rather than construction is you can always find fault with an actual policy and make vague hand-waving gestures about alternatives -- as long as you never commit, you can promise all things to all people. Whoever they nominate, it will be Concern Troll and his running mate Poison Pill.

It wont matter who runs...the amount of chum they left in the water the last year or so is going to kill whoever gets the GOP nod. I mean Romney having to defend his Iraq position is easy compared to some of things Perry and Bachmann would have to defend. I mean even if you dont include his ranch, the illegal aliens issue and his being caught on tape calling for secession every debate is just ripe with idiocy from him. He is the Old Country Buffet of Morons...even Dubya goes "Wait what?" when he talks. The debates with Obama will be hilarious only because Obama won't actually have to talk to win them.

Hope & Change. Hmmm? Wonder if that would work?

I think the difference here is that as far as I remember, Hillary never really pushed Obama into specifics in the primaries either. He won on better grass roots and the remainder of the anti-Clinton sentiment even in the Democratic party. The Republicans are freely offering stances and opinions on video that are potential poison in a general election.

If the 2000 and 2004 election taught us anything it's that there is literally no level of stupidity that would be considered too risky by the public. Dubya came off as a drooling idiot in the debates and a certain segment of the population not only wasn't turned off by it but actually fell for it as "authenticity."

More importantly, by the general campaign the Echo Chamber will be sagely intoning every night that the Republican nominee is all things wonderful, so their audience will either have forgotten or more likely won't ever have known if their candidate is a halfwit. Control the message and reality doesn't matter -- Roger Ailes' lasting gift to the right.

Lehrer: President Obama, your rebuttal?
Obama: I'd like to yield back my time and let my opponent keep digging, I mean, talking.
