Mitt vs. Mitt

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Tim Pawlenty looks like he's going to throw up trying to defend Romney on The Last Word...

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Cain is reassessing his run in light of recent allegations...translation...now that that's out, Cain will almost for sure drop.

Cain is out...translation...Gingrich will take a huge lead in the nomination process over Romney. All Cain votes will go to Gingrich...who will subsequently win the south. And as anyone knows, he who owns the south owns the GOP.

So, we'll have two right wing versions of John Kerry running for the GOP nomination. What a JOKE!

Translation:

Cain drops out.

Cain's wife waits until he sells a million copies of his book about he was martyred by the mean librulz.

Cain's wife divorces him and takes every penny she can get.

Which, having been married to him all these years, she completely deserves. Talk about hazard pay.

I cannot for the life of me figure out this GOP race. None of these people seem plausible as general election candidates. Its even worse than the collection of stiffs plus Dean that ran for the Dems in 2004. Romney has what is called in the industry an "image problem" - translation: people don't like him! There's a poll out tracking his favorability and it found the more people are exposed to him (as opposed to the more he exposes himself) the less favorabe he's viewed. Its tough to win an election when the base is lukewarm about you, even if the incumbent is a very polarizing figure (see Kerry-Bush race). Huckleberry must be kicking himself right now watching Newty rocket into first place.

BUT, if Newt, and I'm still not sure of that, we get a nice election from two very smart people who are pretty much 180 degrees apart on the role of government. Which may be good for us. Anyone else and its shades of gray.

Was the last one 1964? And yes, I know how that turned out for the GOP. I was 9, but because I thought that Barry wanted year round schooling, I, for what it was worth, liked Lyndon. Important issues for a 9 year old.

You think Gingrich is a right wing version of Kerry? I don't see that, Newt actually has a brain. They're both scumbags but one is smart

Gingrich is a complete fake intellectually, though he talks real perdy. If he passes for smart on the right, woe to them.

It would be an interesting debate, though. Ideas would be discussed, even if Newt's grasp of them is purely rhetorical. Debating Romney would be simply swapping platitudes, while debating Perry would be like arguing with a not particularly clever door knob.

Difference is that Obama is a consensus builder who has strived for the middle on many issues. Gingrich is interested in neither of these. I was less close to politics then, but from what I remember...Gingrich relit the partisan torch that Nixon made and Reagan perfected...and handed it to W (who proceeded to burn down small villages).

I don't like Newt, but always thought the line on him was incredibly smart but evil/immoral. It's interesting to see this view come around, and it's one I agree with. He's actually a lot like Obama in this regard; highly overrated as an original thinker.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

I readily admit a Gingrich-Obama contest would be the most interesting of the bunch (well, maybe Cain-Obama but that ain't happening, I'm not even bothering with Paul). The problem with Gingrich though is the same as with Romney. Where does the guy stand? All that deal making with Clinton back in the 90's - does that fly with the base nowadays? Is he a pragmatic balanced budget guy, or a tax cutting at all costs zealot? Does he embrace the "Ryan plan" on Medicare cuts paying for upper income tax breaks or not? Frankly you can level some of the same charges against him as The Mittster, although I think Gingrich has been a little less conspicuous in his flip flops up to this point.

Seems to me we know where he stands. He wants to repeal 'obamacare'.

Which is too bad (I know you're saying he's un-nominateable, but again, too bad).

Can you imagine a Paul-Obama contest? That would be the cleanest breath of fresh air we've had in our national politics since Eisenhower-Stevenson.

Not to mention that Paul would be way to the left of Obama on foreign policy which would make every pundit's head asplode for messing up their inane narratives.
