Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Xtian is not a derogatory term but is based off the greek word for "christ" and has been used as an abbreviation for well over a thousand years. Ever hear of chi rho? It's a good way to fish out people unfamiliar with the history of the religion and makes for hilarity in December when you see people complaining about "xmas".

I fully grasp the concept of "x-mas" and the use of "x". It normally isn't a derogatory term. However, you seem to use it as one to **** people off.

Queer is a historically supported synonym for someone who is gay. Would someone on this board get away with calling a group of gay people a bunch of queers?

If you fully grasp why did you ask? But should you think I use it to **** people off, you are reading too much into it because I have no issue with being direct on why I don't respect the xtian god or his followers.

Yes because that's a good analogy.... get it?

I thought you might like that. ;)

Can't take this debate anymore. The concentrated level of stupidity makes this whole process beyond worthless. If any of these people by some miracle defeat Obama it would just be proof that whatever deity responsible hates humanity.

Generally accurate, although I laughed out loud at the part where they cry poor for the Dem candidates "having to work for years" to offset the financial hit. Yeah, I feel real sorry for Hillary being secretary of state (and who wrote a book and sold it to her supporters, making her quite similar to her GOP counterparts). Oh, and of course she's married to a former president who commands insanely high fees for giving speeches on the lecture circuit.

It's not like any of them lose the nomination and say "oh ****, now I gotta go get a real job".

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Honest question: Do you really have to use the term "xtian"? Kepler doesn't seem to exactly be a card-carrying Catholic but he can manage (perhaps through clenched teeth) using the full word.

What is the purpose of it? It's about as useful of a term as libtard. It serves the same purpose.

I dunno if this is his intent, but I always read "xtian" as xtian -- a deliberately inclusive term, as in "Christians of all stripes: Catholics, all the Protestant Sects, Coptics, and Anybody Else I Usually Forget," in contrast to "Christian" which is too-often identified with singularly silly subsets of bombastic brethren.

Anyway, I've never read it as a slam, but maybe I'm naive.

Not a bad idea, inspired by the whole Fallon stupidity, though I'll bet we could do better as a group. The songs for Gingrich and Obama, however, can't be improved upon.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

As a Christian, the term xtians doesn't bother me. As with xmass, it could be a shorthand label with no disrespect intended.

What really surprises me is how people who are very smart on many topics seem to have no grasp as to what Christianity is all about. Its pretty much...Ya, Germany sucks...look at what happens to Jews over there. There are many here who seem to miss what must be nuance...but seems rather obvious to me.

Ya... it's about Germany... and jews... I've never quite heard it put that way but it's honestly less retarded than some things I've heard come from otherwise intelligent people. Well, at one point I thought they were intelligent.

Listen, xmas is about the christian celebration of the birth of their lord and savior with distinctly pagan traditions that Jesus would probably not be happy with them for on a day that has no basis in their story book. (a story that happens in only 2 of the gospels, both are conflicting accounts and take place at least 10 years apart)

:climbs on the soapbox:
Why must you insist on trying to flame people on religion? It does nothing to forward any of your arguments, instead it makes you look obnoxious and silly. No one* is on here insisting you should believe what they do. Everyone else seems to be tolerant or know where the line is. I have learned what others believe on here in rational posts without anyone being insulted or proselytized to. I know from past posts you actually have some intelligent, thoughtful points to make. Would love to be able to read a post instead of rolling my eyes and skipping it.
:climbs off the soapbox:

Flaming? You want more Brian Fischer? :p

Also it's not flaming to point out simple factual absurdities of a religion. Should never be afraid to talk about something.

I don't care if the whole thing is just a recycled agricultural rebirth myth -- that clip chokes me up and reminds me of a time in my life when I didn't have to pay bills and snow wasn't just something that messed up my commute to work. And that's what Christmas is really all about.

That's good and probably the reason why it has gotten so big, childhood memories or more broadly nostaliga, not the religious aspect. And that bit by me was supposed to be more snarky and sarcastic, not outright vitriol. Though it doesn't make that clip any less hilariously religious since christmas to Linus is Jesus! Not fond memories of childhood.

Really, there needs to be more strong christian overtones!

I'm probably reading too much into it. I'll admit that. I've never really associated "Christian" exclusively with the Evangelicals or Catholics. I've always used it as a general term. I've never really seen "xtian" as a way to include "everyone" either...

The people I've seen use the term "xtian" tend to be atheists. Small sample size, anecdotal, etc.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

How about this...I will stop hating on Christians and their fake holidays when every church starts making Jesus look more realistic. Until Jesus ceases to be white, I will not give up the fight! :D
