Re: 2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!
Copying & pasting my posts from D2Football.com:
A win is a win, but certainly disappointing and many causes for concern in the wake of the 20-13 victory that, honestly, we were fortunate not to lose. The offense was not sharp at all. The offensive line was not giving Bauer much time, many of his throws were inaccurate even when he had time and there were multiple passes that were at least relatively accurate, but bounced off the receivers hands/numbers. The defense did a good job of bend, but don't break, however they bent WAY to much for my liking. Here are my thoughts on the questions coming out of the game:
1. Is UMD worse than we thought?
I'm not ready to say that...yet. Need at least one more game to see if this was just an anomaly. Could've some first-game jitters and/or rust, and there certainly have been a lot of distractions this last week. The line play, especially on offense is very concerning to me however.
2. Is CSP better than expected?
I'd say yes, and I'd be surprised if I'm wrong. UMD wasn't at their best, but CSP often just looked good. For most of the game it didn't look like a superior team was handing an inferior team the game, just two close to equal teams duking it out, and one being better at finding a way to win.
3. Did UMD miss the suspended/injured players?
I think that was part of it. The running game mostly sputtered in the first half and Sikorski is still the best RB on the roster, his return should help at least a little. The paper said the suspended players were all reserves, but Wiese did say they were players that would play "significantly." I'm sure it hurt our depth, especially after the injures, but I don't feel like the game would have been significantly different, but, again, we'll need at least one game with those players to really determine their effect or lack-thereof.
