2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

Not a good week for the Northern Sun, as Mankato, UMD, and Winona, despite all winning, all drop one spot in the rankings, with Henderson State taking top spot in the region. As of today, UMD sits 7th. Not sure what they can do (other than win out of course), other than hope some teams lose ahead of them, which will have to happen given some teams play each other. It'll be real interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks. In past seasons a one loss season was pretty certain to get you into the playoffs.

Yeah, UMD just took a SOS hit this weekend with playing Crookston, but that should trend back up with the next two games. Also the bulldogs would probably want the mavericks and Henderson to win out, as it would be pretty hard for Duluth to pass them, but on of them sitting with a loss might make it easier for somebody else to pass Duluth for that final playoff spot. I would have to sit down and sort through the tea leaves later on it. Got enough right now with seeing if GVSU can make it in if they win out.

The Tea Leaves all changed again on me, kind of liking what I'm seeing right now. Gotta do some more math here later on, but there's a slight chance that Michigan Tech just might have a very slim playoff hope still alive right now, just going to take a few balls bouncing their way just right.

I guess I do deserve that. Especially since one of the things that Tech would need is to have GVSU lose at Saggy next weekend, and knocking the Lakers out of the playoffs. Most everything else involved the GLVC, the LSC, and the RMAC.

Ummmm...... UMD is currently at 6th in the region. All they gotta do next saturday is beat Northern State and they're in. You got Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western tangling and that will saddle one of them with a loss. And I don't see any 2 loss team moving ahead of a 1 loss UMD.

I'll defer to your knowledge of how it works. I agree it looks good for UMD unless they lose. But, anytime you're the last one in line, you get a little nervous.

Yeah, right now most of the mathwork I'm seeing going on in SR3 looks to be if Winona can sneak in or not with a Mo West loss.

Most of what I have seen keeps UMD at 6 as long as they win and the Mo West vs. NWMSU game will determine seeds 3 and 5.

Even though we will likely be on the road and the MIAA teams will be considered the favorites, I really like the way UMD is playing right now and I think they have a realistic shot of emerging from the region.

Heck, anything can happen once you're in the playoffs. Heck, Wayne State proved that last year. They was one of the last teams in, with 3 losses mind you and only got in because of the lack of 2 losses or less teams left in the region. All of their games were on the road, and hell, they made it to the promised land of Florence, Alabama. And those three losses were in the last half of the regular season, which is usually heavily looked at by the committee to split up the close teams. Lot of people felt that they shouldn't have been in the playoffs that year, but eh, there really wasn't an outstanding candidate that really got left home in SR3. and they took home the runner up trophy. Crazy things happen in the playoffs. The FBS doesn't know the fun its missing out on.

Should be an exciting week of football. Sounds like UMD will have their hands full with a red hot Northern State team.

I'm really looking forward to Saturday, it should be a very entertaining game. Hopefully more than 811 people other than me show up. Last week it was a beautiful day, but deer hunting and an unattractive opponent meant there was NOBODY there. Looks like it'll be rainy and deer hunting is still going, but this game deserves a good crowd.

Tis nature of the beast this time of the year. GVSU has been a National Championship contender for over the past decade and yet with the end of the of the regular season and the playoffs, the attendance drops. The weather gets cold and the cute coeds don't wanna freeze their buns off. HS football kicks off and that draws a lot of eyeballs. There's the hunting season and there goes a lot of butts that don't mind sitting out in the cold. Short of building a dome like NMU, there's no way to keep the coeds warm while looking fab. And I'm pretty sure even UND had attendance problems when playoff time came around.

Minnesota State demolishing Upper Iowa to finish the regular season perfect. 63-0 with 3:29 left. In the THIRD quarter.
 
Gee... Thanks GVSU for playing like dog poop for the first half of the game against one of your biggest rivals with the GLIAC north title on the line and a slight chance to make the playoffs and then to storm back in the second half to end up only losing by 3 stinking points!!! :mad:

QB Chase Vogler rushed for 224 yards and 5 TDs and UMD rushed for a total of 496 yards in miserable weather in Duluth. The Dogs beat Northern State 49-31, the offense and defense played well, but special teams was an issue. Had a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown, another blocked and converted to a field goal, and allowed a 29 yard run on a fake punt that led to a touchdown.
