I believe that this past weekend's results reflected poorly on the B1G.
The Gophers are undefeated. :p

(and for the record, I'm not actually a Gopher fan, I just pay attention to them because they're here)

Their o-line has been absolutely pitiful for the first two games. Serves as a good reminder what a great running game is really about, despite what you might think when you watch SportsCenter and play fantasy football. Ball is a dynamo with a good offensive line, hasn't done squat with one that can't perform.

I'd have to think that the new O-Cord is on notice that he's next if his baffling play-calling continues.

"Baffling" is putting it nicely.

3rd down inside the 10? How about a seven step drop!

It's also been painfully predictable and included 2 pass plays for every run play.

But the school deserves it. They play football representing the school, they signed up for top level ball which means they ought to have thick skin, so I'm not feeling bad for them.

Not being a big 10 guy, I don't hate any of the schools. And I was decidedly against Paterno et al. during the investigation.

The school should pay the price, certainly people are justified in hoping the school suffers from this gross absence of leadership and character.

Even on a message board, some of the vitriol, while never reaching the level of PSU's plight, doesn't demonstrate a whole lot of character either.

I think the players who stayed did show loyalty and character, not to Paterno and what he and the other stooges represented, but to the thousands of players before them and to the fans who accepted their school's mistake, supported the penalties and are trying to build something again.

I don't think the current SMU players represent the death penalty teams, I don't think the young men who were duped into thinking Paterno was a good guy should be blamed and really don't think that anyone who chose to join O'Brien there should be ridiculed.

If they lose, nobody need feel sorry for them, the school created that mess..as for the young man who left 13 points on the board in a 1 point game...yeah, I feel badly for him...I'm sure he is the best they have, maybe with another year of development he'd be fine but some teams don't have 1 kicker ready for prime time let alone 2 in case one of them bails in the summer. He didn't molest anyone, didn't cover anything up etc.

I hope he goes out and hits the next 10 in a row, that will mean more for his future than winning that game Saturday.

Right now I'd say Purdue is the best bet to win the division.

That'd be as awful as UCLA winning a Pac-12 division.

OSU will most likely win the division, who of Purdue, UW or Illinois will play in the title game is a toss-up at this point.

As screwy as it sounds, the B1G has said that OSU can still be crowned the division champion even though they are not allowed post-season play, the highest finished eligible Leaders Division team will be the division representative in the champ game but OSU will get the title and trophy. Link (ESPN) Pure stupid, but what would you expect from a confernce who named their divisions Leaders & Legends and went to the NCAA in SUPPORT of OSU players being allowed to play in the 2011 Sugar Bowl (which OSU has since vacated).

Purdue in the Big Ten title game is actually what I meant...my mistake.

Was there ever talk about separating the Big Ten based on Geography? I would assume it would be east and west:

West:

Minnesota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Illinois
Northwestern
Nebraska

East:

Michigan
Michigan State
Penn State
Ohio State
Indiana
Purdue

I assume they decided against this due to the perceived strength advantage of the East. Although, just look at the SEC. There was a time where the SEC East led by Florida and Tennessee was the strength of the league. Now it's with the west and LSU/Alabama.

It's about strength, but not on the field. The significant revenue in the Big Ten was (at the time of the split): Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, MSU. 4 out of 5 of the important programs would have been in one division.

Irish at 19/20 in the polls coming into the East Lansing game. That has disaster written all over it.

Oh yeah. I'm an Irish fan and I will flat out say that the the Irish are going to get destroyed.

Wait until the USC and Oklahoma fiascos. The point spread on those games will be huge. The schedule this year is redonkulous. They basically face 3 legit BCS contendors (MSU, Oklahoma, USC)...all on the road.

No, I think that the fear was putting Michigan, PSU and Ohio State in one division would risk creating the same imbalance as the Big 12 had with Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M all in the South.

Based on historical records this was the case, but I'm not sure that you can separate the teams in any way that will ensure that competitive balance is always maintained between divisions.

Here's a thought...why have divisions at all? If you have a 12 team league, can you still have a conference title game with no divisions? Or does a 12 team league have to be broken into divisions in order to have a title game?

I believe that divisions are required to hold a title game.

So Wisconsin has lost three (?) coaches from last year, plus Russell Wilson? It's still early, but not shaping up to be a good year for them. Good thing they only have to beat out three mediocre teams for the division.
Six, I think.

Well, I'm holding out hope that anything can happen when ND plays M and MSU...I going to expect a victory until the scoreboard says final.

My version of how it goes...ND has its best front 7 in years, they hold Bell to reasonable numbers and force MSU to pass more often...the MSU QB throws 3 picks and ND wins 31-20.

ps: no, I won't be betting the ranch and the dog on that
