Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

The thing I think the SEC "does" better than any other conference is that they have tiers of teams every year, and almost never do you see a team from a lower tier upset a higher tier. Baylor (Old Miss) doesn't beat Kansas State (Alabama/LSU) by 4 TDs in the SEC. A&M beating Alabama *might* be such an upset. Before that, you have to go back to 2010 Alabama-South Carolina, which ended up being 2 3 loss regular season teams. Before that, 2007 LSU-Kentucky.

Combine that with the somewhat unusual schedules the last couple years and possibly going forward with 14 (Alabama did not play USC/Florida, will not play Georgia until SECCG, Georgia skipped LSU/Alabama/Arkansas in conference play last year) and they can throw a number of 1 and 2 loss teams into the top 10 pretty easily.

I think this is going to be the case going forward with 14+ team conferences that only play 8 games, each division is going to effectively be its own conference who then plays a champ game against another defacto conference champ for the right to a spot in the 4 team playoff.

sorta how i envision the upcoming BTHC :p

We gave it everything we had, but our lethargic offense yet again lost a game for us.

Lots of rumors that after one year, Greg Davis may be forced out already.
Someone's gotta pay for this disaster of a season, and ferentz has $3.5 million reasons to throw just about everyone and everything else under the bus to keep his job.

Definitely. Davis was only a one year deal, FWIW.

Ferentz is safe as can be for now. Buyout is 21 million. We have tons of donors, gross second most in the conference I believe, but that's outrageous.

My belief is Davis was originally planned to stay about 3 years, then move Brian Ferentz, who is a fantastic coach, to the OC position. I think it's changed with the fact we just don't run his system effectively.

I just am worried right now. We will be a better team next year. But our schedule gets much tougher as well. We may very well fail to get 6 wins again. If that happens, I may need anger management treatment.
