2012 D1 BCS thread

Um, excuse me, Minnesota is still in the running.
Haha! Like the voters would ever vote the Gophers high enough to go to THE BCS BOWL GAME that awards the winner that big crystal football to the winner. Boise state would have better odds of getting to that game.

The game is rigged to teams that are going to make a lot of money.

And with that dagger, the only bowl eligible, undefeated teams left in the B1G are Minnesota and Northwestern. I guess we won't have to worry about a B1G team making the national title game...

The entire Big Ten is unmitigated **** this year.

I don't think that the voters would be the issue this year, given the NC disasters the computers would punch ANY undefeated B10 team down compared to a one loss SEC team. Can't WAIT for the LSU-BAMA championship rematch again this year!

So which undefeated major conference teams have missed out of the title game because of this alleged bias?

If the Gophers went undefeated, they'd play for the title. They won't play for the title because their team blows goats. Not because of some grand conspiracy you're making up.

Almy gets it. The voters would be more likely to rig it so that there would be a SEC rematch with a one loss team, or hope like hell some other of the undefeated teams left in D1-A college football somehow manage to stay that way.

This doesn't happen because for a school like Minnesota, having a Purdue 2000 (8-3, 6-2, Rose Bowl) season is their once a generation hope, not running the table. It's Wake Forest 2006.

The only argument you could possibly make is Kansas 2007, who defeated zero ranked teams all season long, lost to Mizzou, thus losing their division and not playing for their conference championship. A 11-2 SEC champ LSU was chosen instead. In general, I don't count much from 2007 for future relevance because that season was a once in a lifetime clusterfark.

In the BCS Era, two teams from major conferences have failed to play for the title after going undefeated through the regular season...

1) Cincinnati in 2009
2) Auburn in 2004

While I don't necessarily buy the bias argument, an undefeated Minnesota would likely not play for the title, especially given that they may not even have to play a top 25 ranked team. Of course, as you also point out, the likelihood of Minnesota going undefeated is slim to none.

Isn't a 4 team playoff this year? Or did that not end up going through? In that case, Minnesota won't play for a title because they'll beat by 85 by an SEC team in the semifinal.

Both ranked behind two other undefeated major conference teams, which means it fails utterly to prove any bias except that Alabama/Texas > Cincinnati and USC/OU > Auburn.

Can we please stop using the Gophers in this scenario? Try Arizona or something. :)

Wow. With the way they played against Purdue and the way they looked at the beginning of the game (penalty and taking a time out before even snapping the ball) I thought this was going to be a VERY different game. I am very pleased with the way the Irish played. Really did not make many mistakes and the defense was very good really controlling the line of scrimmage and forcing MSU to become one dimensional. If they can keep improving things they could have a much better season than I expected.
Ye of little faith. Somebody on here predicted a ND win.

We need the football gods to reimburse us for last year and hope we can finally pull one out against M.

I wasn't trying to prove anything, other than there have been 2 BCS Major Conference Undefeateds that failed to play in the title game.

It won't matter this year anyway. Clemson is going to kill Florida State on Saturday on their way to the National title. :p:D:D
