2012 Alaska Governor's Cup: A battle of like-minded schools

Not sure?
KTUU swoons over the Aces now, they are a frontrunner bandwagonner. Puke, makes me sick. Best weekend of AK hockey right here folks. Both teams not tearing it up this year. Let's see where we are at when this thing is over. UAA
The new ownership at KTUU is running that station into the ground. The problem is KTVA is a bigger piece of crap and KYUR/KTBY don't have the resources to take them on.

Too bad that "Alaska's Superstation" with the ABC affiliates seems to have gone by the wayside, it might have been a good solution.

On one sportscast few weeks ago Lauren M. (former UAA student athlete) made a really derogatory remark about UAA hockey, and for me it was totally uncalled for and really demeaning, especially given her past. Obviously no loyalty or respect from alum from another sport. I'm done with KTUU sport tards. No call for that no matter the circumstance. Oh btw Lauren.... There is no such thing as your precious Aces without former Seawolf hockey alum. Shove it KTUU....9k out...peace

The flagship in that, KIMO, got bought out and renamed by the owners of the Fox station KTBY. And KTBY just doesn't have the resources to challenge right now. The only way to challenge KTUU right now is to dump a bunch of cash to upgrade facilities and equipment and find some good on air talent. Given enough money KTVA probably could but they don't.

She's just a lil bitter cause she probably tried to hookup with members the hockey team when she was ta student and they ignored her (gymnasts had a reputation for that at UAA)

Anyway looking forward to this weekend

GO WOLVES.

Any channel that has a radio dj doing the news is a disgrace. Its pretty sad that aces homer Mark Collevechio is doing ABC ALaska newscasts.

Word has it UAF has already sold over 4,000 tickets for Saturday. We should play each other more often.

Steve MacDonald is the news director at KTUU, and he is a HUGE UAA hockey fan. Shoot him an email.

How is the crowd at the Sullivan this year?

The worst ever. Really sad. But even the golden boys (Aces) are 1500-2000 from a sellout, and on week nights only half full.

I always enjoy the atmosphere when UA_ fans come down, but hopefully they'll show some class and not do their oh so clever "What's a Seawolf" (while pounding on the glass), during the player introductions. If they do, I hope that Lyle Woods goes silent and waits for them to stop before he continues. Nothing wrong with fan loyalty and getting under the other teams skin, but there is a line and it was crossed last season during senior night.

I agree, hopefully it doesn't happen during the intro's. Should be a fun game, always seems to be regardless of the seasons the teams have. I'm heading out in the AM to make it to the game with a few friends, how are the roads? It's been snowing in Fairbanks so I'm hoping the roads get to be ok after Denali.

You're not in NY any longer? It's been snowing here too, but not very heavily. The side roads are a bit slick but the highway is fine. Drive safely!

The Anchorage Daily News didn't even bother to write a preview? That's just pathetic no matter which side you're on.

Re: 2012 Alaska Governor's Cup: A battle of like-minded schools

UAA people, what's an approximate number of UAA alums that live in Anchorage/ER/Mat-Su? I'm curious how many people (affiliated with both schools) that the ADN decided to ignore today. UAF has about 3,500 alums in the Anchorage area.

according to office of alumni relations 80% of graduates live in AK, so i'd say somewhere round 50-60% live in Anc/ER/Mat-su area. Just an estimate on my part.

Any other UAA fans heading up besides myself and my gang of 12?
