So the NHL also can't show Bettman's press conference after the CBA is ratified. Apparently, he said he's "sorry."

And this comes as no surprise.

Burke simply never did live up to his words when he was introduced as the Maple Leafs new general manager in November 2008. Do we have to remind you?

"We require, as a team, proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence. That's how our teams play," Burke said.

"I make no apologies for that. Our teams play a North American game. We're throwbacks. It's black-and-blue hockey. It's going to be more physical hockey here than people are used to."

He never did live up to that promise. He never did add or subtract from his roster to build a team along the lines of that initial blueprint.

But did Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment's new ownership group and the new configuration of its board of directors need seven months to figure that out?

No, they did not. But what they did glean since last August, when telecommunication giants Bell and Rogers officially closed on its $107-billion US deal to purchase 75 per cent of the team, was that Burke and some of the members of the new board did not see eye-to-eye. The veteran hockey man did not react kindly to the hockey-team related free advice he was receiving from new board members.

After several of these get-togethers between Burke and the MLSE board, the latter finally decided it was time to part ways with its bombastic hockey GM.

Maybe someone should've explained to Burke that you don't win games by being truculent and pugnacious, you win games by scoring goals and preventing the other team from scoring goals.

A schedule probably won't be released until after the PA votes, so probably Saturday.

Hawks are rumored to open the season out in LA on the 19th... 2pm CST start... Guess we get to see the banner and all that jazz... Probably an NBC game if that is the case....

Look for a TV Extravaganza on the 19th. HNIC has the Leafs - Habs and ??(Calgary - Edmonton??). How about 12 noon NYR - NJD (NBC family); 3 PM CHI @ LAK (NBC family); 7PM / 10PM HNIC twin bill.

Plus your local team on your RSN

For the Eastern teams playing 2 in Winnipeg. Do they do them back to back to minimize travel?? For the 2 SE teams playing 3 do we do a week of Caps / Jets for example?

EDIT: Tweets out of Boston say NYR-BBB on the 19th at the TD Garden

Rumor is Detroit opens against St. Louis from what I saw on the Tweet Machine. Can't remember if it is in MurderTown or the ArchCity.

The 19th is Hockey Day Minnesota. Word is the Wild will be opening at home against Colorado. The rest of the day will be 3 high school games and Gophers-Whioux.

I would hope the Wild would be able to say something to the NHL about it being Hockey Day MN and get it at home, especially if it's opening night.
It'd be really stupid and sad if we open on the road for Hockey Day.

Per Russo it was scheduled for a home game, then a road game, now home again.. Said he's done with it until an official announcement of the schedule which will likely be Saturday.

So the bolts had a promotion for $200 season tickets (upper's I'm sure) that started yesterday. 200 available. If I had seen it yesterday I MAY have inquired, but I have to think they're gone by now. Still nice to see them making some attempt to get fans back.
