Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Dreger just tweeted that PA hotel is buzzing with anticipation, and it sounds as though the two sides are down to minimal issues. Nothing done yet, but today could be a "very good day".

Meh.

Today is a very good day. The US has already won 1 gold medal today. **** the NHL.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Somewhat related, I went to my first ever ECHL game last night. The San Francisco Bulls and the Colorado Eagles. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of play. The only real downside was the hack PA announcer who felt the need to talk anytime hockey wasn't being played.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Question: what happens with the NHL draft this year if there is no season? Seems like it would be a completely random order. Or is it based on winning record in the past couple of years?

If the NHL uses the same format as the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes from 2005, it will probably look something like this:

-A ball lottery will be in place, with every team starting off with 3 balls

-Teams will have a ball taken away through two methods:
1. Has held a 1st overall pick in any of the last 4 NHL seasons prior to the draft.
2. Has made the playoffs in one of the previous 3 seasons prior to the draft.

No team can have less than 1 ball or more than 3, and the 2 methods of losing a ball stack with each other; a team that has made the playoffs 2 times in the past 3 seasons will only have 1 ball, and a team that has had multiple 1st overall picks will have only 1 ball.

Fingers crossed...again.

I'm sorry, but I'm firmly entrenched in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp. Until then, it's just noise.

Hence my "Meh." I'd like to see them hammer something out so we don't risk losing any of NEXT season as well, but this is just a big dick measuring contest.

If this season gets wiped out, what happens to players under contract? Does that count as a year of service toward their contracts or does their contract just continue to be pushed off?

It counts against their contract;they just don't get paid.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

It's over, 10 year deal with mutual opt out after 8 years. Details still trickling in, but it will be a 48 or 50 game season, starting either 1/15 or 1/19. Training camps to open later this week.

64.3M upper limit cap next year.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Further notes:

* 7 year limit on contracts, 8 years if you re-sign

* Variance: lowest paid year can not lower than 50% of highest paid year

Still waiting to hear on buyouts...

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

It is a shame it had to take this long. Surprised how happy I am that the NHL is back.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Meh. I guess I'll pay some attention to what happens with this season, but I'm not really that excited. I surely won't be spending my money on going to any games.

if they wise up (HA!) and make center ice free i'll watch. not going to any games though. f them.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I'll only be home for roughly two separate 2 week stretches, so who knows how many TBL games I'll be able to go to. Probably won't go to any this year though.
