Even Santa has it in for my favorite team! :(

After word got out, Mom got an apology and the "Jolly" old soul got the boot.

According to Mary Trent of Mississauga, Ontario, when she brought her 3-year-old son to visit Santa Claus at Lowe's Toronto Christmas Market, Kris Kringle started crackin' wise. First, he told the kid his red plaid jacket made him look like Paul Bunyan. Then, if bewildering a small boy with a centuries-old pop culture reference wasn't enough, Trent says Santa next turned his attention to the boy's favorite hockey team.

From the Toronto Sun:

"Then he said, 'Oh, you're wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs tuque (hat), you shouldn't be wearing that, they suck.' At that point, I took my son and told him we should go, Santa isn't being very good today."

Trent said her son was inconsolable and cried all the way home to Mississauga.

"He wanted to know who Paul Bunyan was? He wanted to know why Santa said the Toronto Maple Leafs suck," Trent told the Sun Thursday. "I told him Santa was having a bad day. I can't really tell him Santa's a jerk."

Deadspin's take...

Santa was later fired, and the child told that Santa was just "having a bad day," so he's not going to lose his faith. But it'll soon be time to stop shielding this kid from the world. I know his parents want to keep up the illusion, to keep a little bit of magic in his life, but eventually he'll grow too old to believe. He'll be teased at school and mocked by his friends for his naivety, so maybe the time has come to put away childish things. Sooner or later, he's going to have to hear the truth: the Leafs do suck.

Nononono. The mixup is from Clerks 2. Dunno how to insert the link on a kindle but it is on youtube.

Cancelled through the 30th. 13 games scheduled for New Year's Eve, so it's easy to see why they may want to keep that date open.

At this point, screw 'em. I'd rather watch Vince McMahon buy a bunch of teams and start the XHL.
