2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Tom Boswell wrote a nice column the other day in the Washington Post on the dangers of negotiating with Don Fehr. The gist was stop trying to demonize the union and work together and everyone makes money. It took baseball almost 20 years to figure it out.

I really think the NHL wants to count coup against the union. This decertification talk that is just starting to come out are ranging shots by the union. Pretty soon, they're going to drop a big one on the NHL and the owners are going to be in a lot of trouble.
I think a big problem is that the league seems to focusing on breaking the union and, unlike the NFL, there's not an owner with enough clout to say "wait a minute guys."

There are too many teams who are entrenched for a long drawn out battle.

The holdouts: Anaheim, Boston, Columbus, Florida, Islanders, Phoenix, St. Louis, Washington and Dallas.

This one is going to be ugly. 1994 MLB ugly.

All games through December 14 canceled as well as the All-Star game.
As a Columbus resident, I'm actually relieved that the 2013 All-Star game has been cancelled. Even if the miracle comes through and the lockout is settled in the next month, this season is irrevocably marred. It would be awful to be hosting with a pall cast over the entire event.

As for the season itself, there's still enough time to settle the dispute, and have enough of a regular season to justify having the playoffs. But time is growing perilously short for even that modest objective. I'm generally an optimist, but I'll admit I'm losing hope and leave it at that.

And somebody explain how the Wild who lost a bit over $3M, signed those 2 contracts?

And then we have this bit about Jeremy Jacobs, Lord of the Bruins.... http://www.csnne.com/hockey-boston-...-be-held-responsib?blockID=807091&feedID=3352

Hubris isn't a strong enough term. "Now you younguns just go and sit at the kiddies table and behave yourselves!"

Winnipeg Jets representation at a recent NHL Board of Governors meeting piped up to say it was opposed to engaging in a long, bloody lockout sure to stymie their franchise’s momentum and hurt the game of hockey.

It wasn’t Winnipeg owner Mark Chipman, but rather one of the alternate governors representing the Jets.

Bruins Principal Owner and Chairman of the Board of Governors Jeremy Jacobs answered by reprimanding the Winnipeg representative as one of the “new kids on the block” and informed him that he would know when he was allowed to speak in the NHL board room.

**** it. Scrap the whole league and start over fresh. I wish someone had the balls and the means to say **** you to the NHL and start a new, competing league in North America.

I'm surprised Mark Cuban and Jim Balsille haven't done it yet.

As for Jacobs pulling that, I'm not surprised.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Yeah, Jacobs, because leaving you in charge has done such an EXCELLENT job for the league and sport.

***.

Both sides can go eat a bag of ****.

Since there is next to no US coverage, I have been using TSN radio as my hockey fix.

Blue Lunch (Toronto) from 12-2 is a great show with 2 hrs of nothing but hockey.
