2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

While I'm bitter at Fehr for what he did to MLB... The more I understand just why he did it. MLB hasn't had a labor issue since, and thing have been coming up roses since then. It took a bit for the fans to return, but MLB is certainly enjoying themselves now.

The NHL needed this. Fehr made everyone see just how absurdly out of touch the owners were with their comedic offers.

What scares me most is that the NHLPA will feel pressured into signing this just to get it done, and in eight years we have yet ANOTHER lockout with Bettman at the helm when the owners get greedy again.

This is where Fehr scares me as a fan... His mentality seems to be all or nothing, so I'm not sure this will result in a reasonable counter offer

If the players reject an offer that is similar to what all the rumors are, they are going to badly lose the PR battle for the fans support.

MLB involves 8-10 rich owners and a massive TV deal bribing the rest of the owners with tens of millions of dollars directly to their pocket. The NHL has maybe 3-4 semi-wealthy teams and a mediocre TV deal. The amount of money the NHL can scrabble together for revenue sharing is a little more than what the Yankees alone donate.

And the MLB has had labor issues...they were within days of a strike back around '02 back when the Twins were going to be contracted.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

The owners at the meeting today in Toronto (aka T-zero):
Jacobs, Leonsis, Leopold, Edwards

Players @ the meeting: (at least) 10 players including Crosby (complete list is here)

Based on the owners, I am thinking that unless the players get on their backs and bare their necks, the owners are going to tell them to go self replicate themselves.

Edit #2: KHL game. Team A had 7 players on the ice for an extended period of time and scored a goal. Both refs have been suspended for 2 games and both linesmen have been relegated to the minors, not to ref another KHL game this season.

WAY TO GO KHL!!!

18 players. Toews and Jacobs will probably throw down. Way too many people in the room for anything to get accomplished. Half of the day will be spent eye rolling as idiots make statements.

Edit: On a side note, Mr. $192 million Leopold shouldn't be in the farking room at all. At least Jacobs is a consistent cheap-***.

Thornton is in the room, too. Does he throw down on his team's owner?

There are rumors that the Big 4 may meet prior to the meeting. And this optimistic tweet just came down:

Aaron Ward ‏@aaronward_nhl
Per player source,NHLPA #CBA proposal "should be interesting today because it comes closer to NHL ideology". #TSN

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I think we're ***.

PA made 3 (or 4) proposals to NHL today. According to Bettman none of the proposals "even began to approach 50/50". I wonder what Fehr will say?

If I was guessing, the PA wanted a phase in to 50/50 and the owners want 50/50 now.

Bettman -- "this(the offer we made) is the best offer we are willing to make"

Waiting for Fehr, but this looks like Turn Out the Lights, the Party's Over.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Hopefully the players actually release their proposals. I'd rather not take Bettman at his word.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

The #NHLPA were asking for $1.91B in yr 1 (vs $1.87b last yr) If they stuck to that it explains Bettman's comment.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

So, basically what I'm getting is that the owners keep trying to sneak HRR changes in under the hood, and players keep trying to de-link salaries from revenue.

Both sides need to stop with that crap and move on.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Pretty much. Though proposal #3 (50/50 now and owners guarantee that all contracts 100%) seemed like a good place to start. Wonder why the NHL rejected it?

Russo and Fehr's saying the 3rd one was basically written on a napkin during the 90 minute delay and no one ran the numbers to see if it would even work. Daly said they ran the numbers and it's a 56-57% that never reaches 50.

50/50 in yr one for all existing contracts
The new contracts are @ 50/50.
The big question is when the "haircut" gets paid out and how? The players want the owners to pay it all, I think the owners want the players to pay it all.

Somewhere in there is an agreement.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

To me, it doesn't matter what side you're on. The bottom line is that unless you're a player, Donald Fehr is bad news.
