2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Well, yes, that will always be true. And trust me, I don't think Bettman is part of the solution. I just think he's a puppet.

Also, Bob Kraft gets credit for stepping in and helping resolve the NFL labor dispute. Who are the NHL owners that have the clout of a Bob Kraft?

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

The ones that have more clout seem to be the hardcore owners, so that's probably not going to happen.

Flyers and Wings were part of the alleged "Group of 4" that 'didn't want' a lockout in the first place. ;) :D :p So let's whittle it down.

The problem is Illitch is 83, looks 97, and is likely concentrating on his other team. There's not a lot of personal clout left there, IMO. Philly is owned by a corporation. The Maple Leafs just sold a chunk of their stock off. Pegula and Chipman are too new, as are another dozen or so owners.

Flyers and Wings are still in the Top 5 for revenue, but I agree that Illitch probably has his mind on another league at the moment.

One would think that Craig Leopold wouldn't have too much of a problem with the current system. Otherwise, I would seriously call into question what his plans were re: the Suter/Parise contracts.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I believe his plans included getting somewhere between 10-20% of those contracts back in this CBA.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

And I'm pretty sure the Bruins signed some guys for longer than what the owners want the max number of years to be on contracts going forward. They did it this offseason, ahead of the lockout.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

It's already October 19, I don't see that as a big deal. I'd rather have a shortened regular season anyway compared to a jam packed 82 game schedule where guys can barely skate by the end of the season. Now, if they lose the whole season...

It would be interesting to how the NHL would award the Stanley Cup since they are court ordered to in some fashion.

Article somewhere in Canada about that. The Trustees of the Cup will only award it to the NHL Champion.

Would have been hilariously awesome if they had just awarded it to some beer league champ or a U-10 girls team or something.

NHL & Players: You're cheapening the effort we put in to get our name on that!

Cup people: "You do that yourselves when you take every 7th year off, toolbags."

Yeah, that would be a heck of a wake up call...
