2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Where's the WHA when you really need it?

Killled by the NHL. The IHL could have made a serious power play, but they imploded in 2001 from over reaching their markets and only six teams survived to become AHL teams. Other surviving IHL members went to the UHL or ECHL.
The NHL is still top dog.

And, if the IHL survived, we 'd have to root for teams like the Kalamazoo Wings, San Antonio Dragons, San Diego Gulls, Las Vegas Thunder, Long Beach Ice Dogs.

Talk about your untraditional markets.

Yeah, but the Vipers would be 10 minutes from my house, even if they sucked. ;)

Sounds like tomorrow is a HUGE day..if nothing happens tomorrow, say goodbye to a good chunk of games that won't have a chance at being made up.

NHL offers a 50/50 split on HRR, to pay back the 7% the players would lose on their current contracts "over a number of years" with a full season this year from November 2nd probably well into June for the playoffs.

This is likely the best offer the players will ever receive. They turn this down, the next offer will probably be next summer and suck comparatively.

We'll see if the players' counter is at least on the same planet this time.

Well, they're not going to take this exact offer. A lot of the rest is an owner's wish list. UFA up to 28/8 years, contracts limited to 5 year max, ELC's to 4 years from 3. Arbitration unchanged, though. Question is whether they tinker with it and send it back or send another off the wall unrelated proposal.

Question is whether they ... send another off the wall unrelated proposal.

If they do, they're going to lose a lot of goodwill from the fans. This is a smart proposal by the owners, IMHO. If the players counter with something that's not even remotely realistic, then Fehr is going to look like the villain.

Interesting. Included is no more burying guys in the AHL. Salaries would still count against the cap. Have to think that's more of a pro-player thing.

If contract lengths are going to be 5 years max, I think that makes sense. No more covering up for dumb deals by kicking underperforming, overpaid players down to the minors. Might make owners think twice about paying one-season wonders like P.A. Parenteau $6 mil. for 4-5 years.

Hasn't Wade Redden suffered enough?

This is where Fehr scares me as a fan... His mentality seems to be all or nothing, so I'm not sure this will result in a reasonable counter offer
