2012-13 Incoming Freshman Classes Write-Up

Re: 2012-13 Incoming Freshman Classes Write-Up

FS23 - If you were there and disagree with me, then disagree. And explain why. Otherwise, your responses to my comments have zero credability because you'd disagree with me if I said the sky was blue.

I realize he didn't mention Nanne. He didn't mention other players either. Nanne was a 7th round pick. Gilmour was a 4th rounder. That undoubtedly had a lot to do with Nanne not getting the same attention in the article.

It isn't that Nanne teared it up, or that Gilmour was awful. Nanne was just much more noticeable.

Now, they are different type of players. Gilmour is more of a power forward. He just didn't play like one. Nanne had more energy, forechecked harder, and was much quicker. I expected Nanne to be the better skater, but not to be more physical. And he was.

And in all fairness, Nanne was the pick most criticized by Wild fans (including myself) during the draft.

Again, if anyone was there and disagrees, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

And I am unsure of what "quintessential BC player" means, but it doesn't change the fact that he was unnoticeable at prospect camp and Nanne looked better.

As someone who has now seen Gilmour play live, if he is the "quintessential BC player" and that was his best effort, than I would be very concerned if I were a BC fan.

I didn't criticize it at all.

Your thoughts on the camp are meaningless. Also, I'm sure Gilmour's performance in a Wild prospect camp isn't indicative of what kind of player he'll be at BC. I imagine MANY college prospects that ulimately do well in college have had less than stellar pro prospect camp appearances.

You just love putting words in my mouth, don't you. I never said it was indicative of what type of player Gilmour will be at BC. I simply said Nanne looked better than Gilmour at this camp. And since the subject of this thread has focused on the 2013-14 Minnesota and BC recruiting classes, which those players are a part, I felt it was interesting and relevant.

Yet you equated Gilmour's performance at the camp to the definition of "Quintessential BC Player".

Or did I put that in your mouth as well?

Or just read it again for clarification.

And I am unsure of what "quintessential BC player" means, but it doesn't change the fact that he was unnoticeable at prospect camp and Nanne looked better.

Re: 2012-13 Incoming Freshman Classes Write-Up

No, I didn't.

- FS23 pointed out that the article called Gilmour the "quintessential BC player"
- He added "As a college hockey fan who hopes that his team can get by BC one of these years....that scares me"

His assumption: Because Gilmour was called the "quintessential BC player" by a blog (whatever that means), he'll be a star in college.

I merely pointed out that Gilmour didn't look good at this camp, and if that type of performance constitutes what it means to be the "quintessential BC player", then being the "quintessential BC player" can't be a good thing.

So yes, you did put more words in my mouth. Gilmour had a bland performance at camp. Nanne looked faster and more physical. Since this was the only time I have seen Gilmour play live, and the only time I've seen them on the ice together, my comments are limited to their performance at this camp. I'm sure I'll have more opinions of Gimour as I see him play more.

If I were a BC fan though, I would certainly be hoping this performance wasn't what can be expected of the kid.

So, in other words you don't really stand by what you said. Good to know.

Re: 2012-13 Incoming Freshman Classes Write-Up

Can't wait for the Gophers to come out ranked the preseason #1 and watch Scooby meltdown.

I sure do love watching a guy try to continue to act like a Gopher fan while simultaneously having a temper tantrum about positive things happening with the program.

EPIC!

You will note that I never even mentioned Gilmour as he is by far the least heralded of BC's incoming forwards. Granted your top forwards are all young, which makes the comparison more difficult, but neither Guertler (57 GP - 9-19-28/ +3) or Fasching (37 GP - 7-14-21/ -15), put up very big numbers compared to Cangelosi (53 GP - 29-30-59/ +18) who was also a young rookie or any other of BC's top Forward recruits.

Re: 2012-13 Incoming Freshman Classes Write-Up

Wow, reading comprehension is pretty weak on this board. Not surprising :)

Let's break my comment down for the less-educated.

As someone who has now seen Gilmour play live, if he is the "quintessential BC player" and that was his best effort, than I would be very concerned if I were a BC fan.

- If he is to be considered the "quintessential BC player"
- If that was his best effort
- Then I would be worried as a BC fan

If you can't follow that, you aren't worth the time ;)

Cangelosi is a year older. Guertler and Cammarata were both 16 year olds playing in the USHL last season. And yes, that one year is significant. And Cammarata had more points than Cangelosi. So I would disagree with your earlier premise that Cangelosi will be the best player in the USHL. Fasching is a power forward who was playing against older, larger players. Also as a 16-year old. I am expecting to see a big jump in his production this season as he is able to more effectively play his game as the age gap closes.

:p:D:D Pure comedy gold. Oh, and don't even get me started on this quote...

If anyone is "less-educated," I think we know exactly who that person is.

And the hypothetical represented by the word "if" still elludes some. Sigh ..,,

Being a quintessential BC player is usually a good thing come March and April once they are wearing maroon and gold. Especially when playing a team full of quintessential Minnesota players (except the foreigners, like that Haula guy because we all know no Minnesota player from Finland can possible be a quintessential Gopher).
