2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

No roster yet, we'd love to have you play. Any preference on day - Friday or Saturday?

You don't want him to play in net. People won't score. There's a reason people like playing against evilgoalie.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Hey now. Evilgoalie was the difference-maker last year at Yost -- in the positive sense! IIRC, that was confirmed by a vote of his peers. Don't underestimate evilgoalie; he may have improved since you last faced him.;)

There seems to be a pretty decent consensus, but if it's STA v Ridder consider me on the STA bandwagon as well. I'm also in the Saturday camp though will be playing no matter what.

I'm just saying that HockeyBum is the goalie on my D league team made up of fat, old guys. We lose our games by one goal against the young, thing kids, and these things are not shoot outs. It's HB standing on his head, stoping 40+ shots sometimes while we get 15-20. Maybe if he doesn't get his skates fixed...

Saturday would probably work better for me, but I'd go with whatever the group decides. I'm so out of the loop that I don't even know what weekend the FF is this year. I just have to make sure I'll be in town that weekend before I can commit.

And St. Clown gives me far too much credit. There is a reason I play in the D-league.

Should be fun to play. :)

It will be interesting once registration opens- to see if we can have a State of Minnesota vs everyone else like we did last year- it worked pretty well. Although, the highlight really was a Spartan being forced to wear a Michigan helment, since he forgot his. ;) A BG fan was close highlight behind that.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I just found out that I'll be down that weekend, and I'm interested. Is there a drop-dead date for "signing up," and this is open even to people that are terrible at hockey, right?

There will be a drop dead date, but well in the future. Also we'll likely end up with some drop-ins as well.

It is indeed. I mean I'm even organizing the ice and I am terrible at hockey.

We'll be getting the sign-up post up soon.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I just got the confirmation that I can get time off for the FF. It looks like most hotels near the Xcel are booked. Any recommendations ? I'd like to stay within half hour to 45 minutes from the arena.
When do the twinkies open the season? are they home during the FF?

They're home, and there's a game Friday night. Good luck getting tickets.

Within a half-hour to 45 minutes is a big chunk of land. Are you driving or flying? If you're flying, then anything near the airport would fit the bill real well. If you're driving, then anything near I-94 from Woodbury to St. Paul would suit your needs better.

There are a few in Vadnais Heights and it's an easy drive down to the X from there. Look up: Holiday Inn Vadnais Heights or Country Inn and Suite Vadnais Heights Both are right off 35E(which goes into Downtown St. Paul) and less than a mile north of 694 so about a 20 minute drive to the X. Plus there are great bars right there with cheap drinks and good food, Jimmy's and down the road, Sak's. Jimmy's has shuttles to home Wild games, if there are enough people and if you know in advance, you could probably have them shuttle you to the Frozen Four.

To the east there's a Best Western, Oakdale Good bar in Sgt. Peppers right there. Hotel's right off 694, just north of 94. I'd say a 20 minute drive down 94 to the X. Hilton Garden Inn, Oakdale Off 94 and Radio Drive/Inwood Avenue, about twenty minutes from the X. Across the street from the Hilton there's The Wildwood Lodge in Lake Elmo

In Woodbury, there Country Inn and Suites off I-94 and Century Avenue. Connected to a Green Mill restaurant. Hampton Inn and Suites off 494 and Valley Creek Road, about two miles south of 94. Sheraton off 494 and Tamarack Road just south of 94. All will take about 20 minutes to get to the X. Woodbury bars are terrible...I live in the city, it's lame.

There's also a Holiday Inn off I-94 and McKnight Road. Area can be a little sketchy, but not horrible, but the hotel is kept really nice as it's across the freeway from the International Headquarters of 3M. It's about 15-20 minutes from the X.

Let me know if you need any other directions or anything.

Even if you stay by the Mall of America/Airport, you're not that far out from the X.

45 minutes gets ME to the airport (Minnetonka). Just sayin'.

Don't give up without at least trying the ticket exchange on the Twins website. Was in the Twin Cities last June, and it worked very well. Although we were high up, we were right behind home plate. Yes, we paid a premium. But on a percentage basis, the mark-up wasn't bad. I wouldn't want to pay above face value for MLB game after game. But on a one shot deal it was fine.

Granted, the fact it's Opening Day makes it a much tougher ticket.

The Saturday Twins game starts at 6:10, directly conflicting with the FF title game. So if Opening Day doesn't work, the back-up would be Sunday afternoon at 1:10. Prices on the exchange will probably be more down to earth for the Sunday game.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Yeah, if you are happy with 45 minutes you can stay anywhere in the metro. I can get to the X in 45 minutes and I am in Coon Rapids, a second-ring NW suburb of MPLS.

There are plenty of hotels in Eagan/Mendota Heights as well and that will put in good proximity to St. Paul, the airport and the likely home of the Posters' Game. I assume you'll fly in and rent a car (the Twin Cities are not great for public transit or cabs - though it can be done).

ETA: I don't know why anyone would think of Vanais Heights for this, unless there was some reason to be up that way. Best bets would be; in Minneapolis if you thought you might want to do things in that downtown, an airport hotel if you want proximity to the airport and the Xcel, or Mendota Heights/Eagan for proximity to airport and Xcel and posters' game. There are plenty of chain motels in all those areas. All these choices will put you within 45 minutes of the key destinations (unless you get caught in bad rush hour traffic). Take a look at the maps and you can see how close the airport is to the Xcel.

Vadnais is close to the X, easy to get to everywhere, 20-25 minutes to either downtown, and most likely costs a lot less than Minneapolis on opening weekend for the Twins.

The Twins schedule for that weekend is, Friday @ 3:10, Saturday @ 6:10, Sunday @ 1:10 against Oakland.
