Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Don't forget about Kesler. Yeah he hasn't had the greatest final, but he was their main man and a big reason why they got here after the first three rounds.

If he puts a game winner in or has a two-goal performance his name should certainly be in there.

Kesler's been hurt since some time in the WCF. He's not going to suddenly rise up now. 11 of his 19 points were against Nashville.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Lost in the whining coming from Vancouver about the Boychuk hit on Mason Raymond is the fact that the training staff from the Canucks let a guy with a fractured vertebrate skate off the ice and walk to the dressing room. It's a wonder he isn't paralyzed. If there was even the most remote chance of there being something screwed up with his spine he should have been stretched off. Maybe after they've taken the Bruins and the NHL to task, the Canuck fans can ask what the hell the medical staff was thinking.

Oh, the Canucks fans will whine.

This is the same fan base that didn't understand why Bertuzzi got such a strong punishment, after all.

Oh, they're going to scream like banshees tomorrow night. I'd guess on fewer than 6 total penalties for a SCF game 7. Probably closer to 3 or 4 total power play chances.

Props to Deadspin for noticing that Luongo's problems might be simply that he needs glasses:

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

It's hard to call it late because the puck was between his legs when they got entangled. No one touched it, and the puck left the area and the two guys went into the boards. That happens dozens of times a night. What doesn't happen is Raymond falling awkwardly and going back first into the boards like that.

I gotta agree with Kerry Fraser -
"Boychuk should have received a minor penalty on the play and no suspension should result. I wish Mason Raymond a full and speedy recovery from his injury."

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Today is Wednesday, June 15, 2011 and today is a great day for hockey!

Welcome to Game 7.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Losing Game 7 at home is a choke accomplished only by the 2009 Red Wings, 1971 Black Hawks, and 1945 Red Wings. It's as rare as the comeback from being down three games in a series.

Tonight, we find out if history has the last word in this year's playoffs.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

This is the 7th game 7 of this season's playoffs alone. Home teams are 5-1.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

There are no front row seats left on StubHub. Prices for the remaining seats range from $1700 for nosebleeds to $18,000 for Row 3.

Logistics? Like what?
Like making sure that NBC would still let them go ahead with the viewing party? Didn't the Penguins run into this problem a few years ago (having NBC say okay, then say no)?

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

There's also that trend that the Olympics tend to have on the host city's NHL teams in Canada. After Montreal and Calgary hosted, they won Stanley the following year.

NBC originally said no, but relented under pressure from the Garden. It was the mayor's office who put the kibosh on the viewing party.

Wouldn't it only be a problem if the Garden is charging people to watch the game there??? I would think it would be an easy way around it by making it a Can Food drive to get in. Bring in 3 items and you're in.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

There are some interesting deals on craigslist for tickets

I have two tickets to the Canucks game 7. i am willing to trade for a pre 80's muscle car that is preferably as close to stock as possible.Trans am is stock condition or something similar. Let me know what you have. Thx
I will trade my 2005 Mazda 3 for (3) game 7 tickets. 104,000 KM. Good condition. I just don't drive it very often, and REALLY want to go to game 7!
but the oddest...

NBC doesn't get to count those at the Garden as "viewers" in their Nielson ratings.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Another "safety measure" from Mumbles: no one will be admitted to a bar after the second period ends.

Also:
They have taken it a step further this morning. Three new rules have surfaced.

1. Bars have to black out their windows so people can’t gather outside to watch
2. Anyone near the Causeway Street area that isn’t in a bar will be escorted away by police
(the third rule is the one I posted above)
