Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

TV Ratings for Game 6 were very strong, considering it was 4-0 early in the game.

Top U.S. Local Markets for Game 6
Boston – 33.3/48
Providence – 18.4/28
Buffalo – 9.1/14
Hartford – 5.8/9
St. Louis – 5.0/8
Detroit – 4.7/7
Minneapolis – 4.2/7

Look for Boston to get almost a 50 tonight, with Hartford and Providence staying very strong.

Another "safety measure" from Mumbles: no one will be admitted to a bar after the second period ends.

Also:
They have taken it a step further this morning. Three new rules have surfaced.

1. Bars have to black out their windows so people can’t gather outside to watch
2. Anyone near the Causeway Street area that isn’t in a bar will be escorted away by police
(the third rule is the one I posted above)

Seriously?! What a d0uchenozzle. How about people who work late or have school? Apparently we're not celebrating the fact that the Bruins might bring home the Cup because it's dangerous...

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

It was a vicious series, in which your team persevered despite several sickening cheapshots by the opposing team. You endured your team being taunted with immature finger waves. You watched devastating hits on Nathan Horton and Mason Raymond, 50% of which you thought were unquestionably dirty. The entire hockey world outside of your particular city was united against your team, you told us, incessantly. And let’s not even mention those shameless homer announcers on the other team’s broadcast.

That's great. :)

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Losing Game 7 at home is a choke accomplished only by the 2009 Red Wings, 1971 Black Hawks, and 1945 Red Wings. It's as rare as the comeback from being down three games in a series.

Tonight, we find out if history has the last word in this year's playoffs.

Thats like saying a dice that lands on six, 5 times in a row will dictate the next roll. It doesn't. Believe me, I have my superstitions, but anything logical says that history will have less influence than what goes on the ice.

But yeah, I hope boston doesn't get shut out AGAIN on the canuks ice...

The first part is wrong for Boston, because I'm pretty sure the majority of neutral NHL fans are pulling for the Bruins. That everyone is against the Canucks is part of the CoNsPiRaCy.

The second part is wholly wrong, because the finals have been broadcast by NBC/Versus and the CBC. Local broadcasters/announcers ended in the second round.

Wow. Whoosh.

Right. Because the CBC and NBC broadcasts have been completely neutral, unbiased, excellent analysis.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Eddie Olczyk needs to take a long walk to the South and West of the United Center after dark.

He knows he's a "big star" with his catch phrases ("Stop it right there," "active-stick," "all you young players out there," "happy human," "forehand-backhand," etc...) and he makes the broadcasts all about him. Pat Foley can somewhat keep him in check during the Blackhawks broadcasts (but Olczyk's blatant homer-isms make Jack Edwards look like the away teams announcer for NESN) but when he gets on national TV, Eddie-O runs free.

Oh, and for everyone's entertainment tonight:

All I know is I don't want to live in a world in which Bobby Lou, Biting Burrows, Flopping Maxine, and the Olsen Twins have their names on the Stanley Cup.

GO BRUINS!

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

I, for one, can't wait to hear how the idiots in Vancouver react when Tim Thomas is announced as the Conn Smythe winner. The only question is how bad it will get. Will they simply boo? Throw things on the ice? Throw things at Thomas himself? Unite in an obscene chant? The possibilities are endless.

Sad really, as Timmy T. has put on a show and the Bruins don't even sniff the finals if not for him. He deserves the award even if he gives up a dozen goals tonight.

Niclas Wallin signed a contract back in Sweden, ending the Pickles-Hamburger era in San Jose.
