Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Isn't RIM in a bit of financial trouble these days?

I can't believe there's not a great Downfall-style Sedin Thelma and Louise clip up yet!

I mean, honestly, who wants to ALWAYS have a RIM job unless your work for Peter North?

Tough ****. Maybe the dives would sell a bit better if one brother actually jumped in the fray & stood up for the other one.

Who was it that went at Marchand after the hip check on Danielle? That's right, Keith Ballard...not the other Swede.

You want a turtle to do something that it's DNA won't allow? You're pretty demanding.

I agree. They are not done.

It's ironic because everyone thought the Bruins were done after they lost the first two.

It's amazing how people freak out in the NHL or NBA playoffs when a team wins two games in a row.

Exactly. If the Red Sox can comeback anyone can. Right? ;)

I want to see a "Hitler finds out that the Sedin twins are actually women" youtube video.

There is that one NHL commercial where there's a bachelor party in a hotel, and one of the guy promises Swedish twins, then Pinky and the Brain show up at the door.

Edit: there we go

TNSE says that they're concerned with using the Jets name if they don't own the Jets history.

The Coyotes still hold the history of the Jets, so even if they use the old name the franchise's leading point scorer will be Ilya Kovalchuk, not Dale Hawerchuk.

IF they do use the Jets name/logo, I can't wait to pick up an Evander Kane jersey. :D Number 9 will be an available number for Winnipeg!

While I get the whole "it's still technically the same franchise" bit, there's something about the history moving with the team that never sat right with me. In my eyes, the way the NFL handled the Cleveland/Baltimore move (at least in terms of franchise history) was the way to do it.

From what I remember, the fans of the Browns and the city heavily petitioned the NFL to have it that way, and the NFL relented (seemingly because of the onslaught of correspondence/etc to the league).

Edit: I don't recall (and am too lazy to look up) what the situation is between Indy/Baltimore.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

I read this piece as well, and what stood out for me was the boorish behavior of Bruins' fans:

By all accounts, Canucks fans weren't treated well as they left the arena. Sauced-up Boston fans were shoving them, throwing things at them and challenging them to fights. A friend of mine who roots for Vancouver wore his jersey to Game 3, despite my warnings, and saw his life flash before his eyes about 20 times as he looked for a cab. Things were so ugly that it prompted a Boston Globe editorial urging Boston fans to act with more class, an impossibility after we learned Horton would miss the rest of the playoffs. In the stands during Game 4, the hostility toward the Canucks and their fans was fairly suffocating. One fan behind me was swearing like a sailor at every Canuck, even using an obscenity that I hadn't heard at a sporting event in years. Because there was a little boy sitting behind us, I braced for the boy's dad to say something to the guy … then I realized that the boy's dad was the guy. And he wanted the blood of the Vancouver Canucks.

Bottom line: Every sports fanbase of significant size has jackasses. The reality of being a fan of a successful team is that you're going to be associated with those idiots by your opponents, whether you like it or not.

I agree, my post was just pointing out that the Bruin's are not the only fan base who has fans who act in an idiotic way.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Yes, I read that in the Globe, as well. And not to suggest in any way that it didn't happen...but I always find it curious when someone responds to a question about what's going on in their barn with "Oh yeah? Well this happened in your barn", which was exactly the case with Lucic situation. I also think that the quoted description came from a Bruins' fan lends a little credence to the situation, as do the videos we see on YouTube of Bruins fans, as well as personal experiences of people (including myself). I think a sizable subset of Bruins fans are emboldened by their team's style of play and winning ways after suffering for long periods of times, and it leads to dangerous situations. I seriously will not be surprised when a Bryan Stow situation occurs in Boston.
