Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

I agree, my post was just pointing out that the Bruin's are not the only fan base who has fans who act in an idiotic way.

Of course. I agree with this. I just think that are degrees of jackaassdom, and that in Boston it takes on a more violent hue.

I am sure that nothing like that has ever happened in Montreal or any other NHL city, you are most likely correct in your opinion that this only happens in Boston.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Yes, I read that in the Globe, as well. And not to suggest in any way that it didn't happen...but I always find it curious when someone responds to a question about what's going on in their barn with "Oh yeah? Well this happened in your barn", which was exactly the case with Lucic situation. I also think that the quoted description came from a Bruins' fan lends a little credence to the situation, as do the videos we see on YouTube of Bruins fans, as well as personal experiences of people (including myself). I think a sizable subset of Bruins fans are emboldened by their team's style of play and winning ways after suffering for long periods of times, and it leads to dangerous situations. I seriously will not be surprised when a Bryan Stow situation occurs in Boston.

You know, I totally get what you're saying here. And I agree. I think the behavior of Boston fans has been off the charts insane (and not in a good way) - I don't think the die hard Red Sox fans acted like this in 2004. And I think most Boston fans here think the same way. But while you can say you find it curious when someone responds to a question about what's going on in their barn with "Oh, yeah, well what about what happened here?" I find it curious that someone who is a self-professed hater of Boston fans (and I'm not calling you out on that - I get it, but you are one, hence the point I'm trying to make) finds it necessary to have to point out stuff like that all. the. time. I don't see posts like that by you about any other fans of other teams, and before you jump on the "I don't have to because no one is worse than Boston" bandwagon, I don't think you made any kind of comment about Lucic's grandparents getting hit with stuff in Vancouver. There are some of us here that are fans and very excited about the B's in the final. We all get along relatively well here. I know Boston fans can be jerks. I just don't need it thrown in my face here. I hope I'm not coming across poorly here. I'd just like you to see it from my point of view.

From what I remember, the fans of the Browns and the city heavily petitioned the NFL to have it that way, and the NFL relented (seemingly because of the onslaught of correspondence/etc to the league).

Edit: I don't recall (and am too lazy to look up) what the situation is between Indy/Baltimore.

Indy has the entire history of the Colts. Baltimore is an expansion franchise that "drafted" the entire Cleveland Browns franchise when Art Modell wanted to move the Browns from Cleveland. The settlement was that in 3 years, the Browns would come back with their history after the hiatus.

I see your point of view, yes. And for the record, almost all of my friends are Bruins' fans (including a couple from the board), so I wouldn't say I hate Bruins' fans. Anyhow, point taken, and I'll pipe down. :D

Totally fair, and for the record you come across as a great fan in every sense.

...as do the videos we see on youtube of (new york/phili/pittsburgh/boston/any city in east of indiana and north of maryland) fans, as well as personal experiences of people (including myself). I think a sizable subset of (new york/phili/pittsburgh/boston/any team that is doing decent east of indiana and north of maryland) fans are emboldened by their team's style of play and winning ways after suffering for long periods of times, and it leads to dangerous situations. I seriously will not be surprised when a bryan stow situation occurs in any of the above mentioned cities.

You're giving LA (where the Brian Stow incident actually happened), Chicago (where fans have gone onto the field to attack a coach) and all of Texas way too much leeway. And let's not forget SEC country.

Ok, let me rephrase: LA, Chicago, Texas, SEC country and all of the northeast (plus Ohio) are horrible fanbases who turn violent in a heartbeat.

If we haven't elected Scarlet to be our leader, maybe we should.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Heh. Three typos in that. And could they have found someone with more energy?
