2011 NHL Playoffs III: History Will Be Made

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs III: History Will Be Made

Having had about 12 hours to cool down and think, I feel that the WCF may as well have been decided two weeks ago when the Sharks failed to knock out Detroit in 4 or 5 when they had the chance. Alternately, if the Red Wings had shown up in games 1/2 and dispatched San Jose in 5, they would have had a similar shot of the WCF being a 6-7 game series.

Vancouver ran away with the conference title in the regular season and led every team statistic for a reason, and once they got their mental block sorted out, were the best team in the West. The Sharks needed some luck and some healthy bodies to narrow the gap in a 7 game series... and got neither. Detroit and San Jose brutalizing each other in a 7 game series was just what the doctor ordered for the Canucks, and I'd be astonished if they didn't win the Cup at this point.

Unfortunately, that will mean that Raffi Torres will have his name on the Stanley Cup, but hell, Matt Cooke, Chris Kunitz, Claude Lemieux, and Chris Pronger are already on there, so it's pretty obvious that the Hockey Gods, if they exist, are indifferent to cries of good vs. evil.

On the other hand, Vancouver haven't proven themselves to be champions just yet. They've earned the right to play for the Cup, but they've been here before in franchise history. Now granted, this is the first time they will be considered the clear favorite instead of the underdog.

There are more than a few classless players throughout NHL history who got their name on the Cup. We just aren't willing to sit down and document all of them.

Paul Bissonnette is such a great follow on Twitter (duh). PK Subban just joined Twitter, and BizNasty suggested that he follow Mike Richards. :D

Eh, previous playoff experience is pretty weak on the Eastern side as well. St. Louis, LeCavalier from 2004 for Tampa, and besides that, most everyone else of note is taking their first crack at the ECF, much less SCF. They're not going to be playing a healthy experienced Pittsburgh or something.

BizNasty is entertaining enough to justify having a Twitter account, you wouldn't have to follow anyone else. Dan Carcillo joined recently also, and he has had some hilarious tweets as well, though he doesn't tweet very often.

Looks like the red wings lose a lot with rafalski retiring this year. Can’t glean too much from the article, but he seems like a stand up guy. Props to him for making the choice.

The panic level will spike if Lidstrom decides it's time to raise his kids in Sweden. $12 million in cap space from retiring D-men, and no one to really spend it on.

I can't wait to see the Cup come to Boston!

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs III: History Will Be Made

This may be completely pedantic, but Emrick's constant references to the puck Kareem-ing is like fingernails on chalkboard.

It's careen, mr. broadcaster man. Careen.

Kareem was a tall dude with a mean sky hook, and lately a penchant for whining about statues.

Clutch goal by Lucic.

Kind of frustrating to have to score just to start the game even, but there it is. The Bs have been doing this the hard way all postseason.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs III: History Will Be Made

And they'll continue doing it hthat way for four more games. Go B's!

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs III: History Will Be Made

Bruins <3 bad angle slap shots.

At least they got it down low a couple times before failing to score on that PP.

I'd fire Claude just for these power plays... are our guys really that awful at them or is it the strategy?
