Finally, new logos/color scheme for the Predators:

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Also, Bettman is looking at a fairly radical realignment plan for next year:

2 divisions in each conference, with 7 teams in one conference and 8 teams in the other, with the top 4 in each division making the playoffs.

Do not like.

I'm all for it!

It's a throwback to the Norris days, AND... the AHL has been doing it for a while. This whole concern about "unbalanced" divisions with this proposed realignment is just bullsh** by "fans" scared of improving the game.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

The Bruins open at home with the Flyers on 10.6.11.

I will be there to watch them raise the banner, assuming tickets aren't absurd. I'd pay decent money, but no more than $70 per ticket. I know it'll be pricey for a few reasons, A, it's the Flyers, B, its the Season/Home opener, and C, they are raising a banner.

...But hopefully it's not absurd and I can either get them for Face via the ticket office, or through StubHub/Craig's List/eBay for close to face.

And I really like the Predators new look.

I hope the Bruins wait to raise the banner when they play Montreal! :D

You think you can find a ticket for $70? I thought face value was higher thanthat.

While I would love for divisions to be relevant again, I'm not sure I want 7/8-team divisions. However, I'm just a lowly hockey fan, and the BoG will do whatever it/Bettman wants.

That said, this might be a good chance to align the new divisions in a way that regular season travel is somewhat evened up across the league. Meaning less emphasis on geography, and perhaps more cross-conference games.

There are a handful of nosebleed seats that go for $29. Seats on the Sports Deck are as low as "only" $110 (with free appetizers!) at face value.

But $70 for the home opener might be enough to get you in the lobby...It's not going to come close to getting a seat to the game.

FWIW, I realize Lidstrom is a great player and that +/- doesn't tell the whole story...but how do you win the Norris as a -2?

Not a huge change, huh? Where is the color change? They just officially drop the silver? I guess the blue might be slightly lighter. The guitar pick is cool though, especially the Mitsubishi logo in the negative space between the stars. :)

It's supposed to be a nod to the Tennessee state flag (with the stars representing the different parts of Tennessee). And you picked up on the guitar pick. The morons on Hockeys Future couldn't figure out why the secondary logo was shaped the way it was.

Ah yes. I forgot what the TN flag looks like.

Because the Norris is basically an award for the best offensive d-man, regardless of what the criteria say (best "all-around" d-man). Plus, as a six-time winner, and doing it all at this age while lacking much of a physical mean streak, I'll admit that he probably gets a little extra love and some benefit of the doubt from the voters.
