2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Anyway......enough jawing with the BC idiot....

What are everybody's picks for this year's Frozen Four????

I predict UND, Michigan (though BC will be VERY tough to beat), Miami (OH), and in kind of an upset....MN-Duluth.

Nobody has a gun to your head stopping you from tuning to Versus, pal.

Yay I figured it out! Now I can be as cool as Brian Gentry and Eagle Fan. Oh joy!

Yuppie Scum. I realize that. It is just not hockey though, it is everything. I get it ESPN is in Conn, but it just gets old.

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Perhaps the better solution would be to have Conferences bid on regionals as opposed to individual schools. Then they could schedule something to where the Conference Champion automatically gets placed in its Conference's regional.

If there were only four conferences, that would be a stellar idea. However, Atlantic Hockey can't be shut out.

Most of us in Hockey East land take for granted that our Western friends like you and NMU have to go through when it comes to travel. Eight of the members can be reached from Boston in a two hour drive and in most cases, less. While possible, we don't have to fly to any away games for our teams. We are the most accesibile of the five conferences where I could drive to all away games in six hours or less counting stops. It's a lot different out here.

BC, UNH, and BU have had a stranglehold on the NE regionals because they are usually the in NCAA's, and therefore in the regional they host. There will be 7500+ UNH fans in MHT, but didn't even get half that in Amherst which is a just a three-hour drive. Most of you Western folks can do that in your sleep but out here, it's an overnight trip and most fans would not put up the cash required for food/gas/lodging. Even if BC was in the regional sans UNH, attendance will still be very good as the BC folks would drive the 1-1.5 hours up from Boston, depending on traffic. I can almost guarantee if the regional was Miami/Northeastern, UND/Merrimack at MHT, attendance would be a lot difference. They would fill about half the barn but I don't think it would be close to a sellout or a sea of white and blue.

I doubt the NCAA would let that happen. As it stands now, schools/groups bid to host regionals and pay a premium because they know that their team (as long as it qualifies for the NCAAs) will be a host. The WCHA might be thrilled to host a regional in St. Paul if North Dakota or Minnesota are guaranteed the spot, but what happens when Denver wins the Broadmoor and are picked as hosts, while UND goes elsewhere? Or Atlantic Hockey picks a spot and Air Force ends up getting the autobid? That is fine from a fan's perspective, but someone is going to lose money. The organizers are going to want to pay less to cover themselves in case their cash cow doesn't make it, which means they'll bid less which means the NCAA would get less money. It's a nice idea, but the NCAA is more interested in cash than ideas.

Now, find a way to make the NCAA more (or at least as much) money and they might listen.

First Round games at the higher seed, best 2 of 3.

Admittedly, I do not follow the CCHA very closely. Is the conference down a little this year as a whole? What happened to Michigan State? In your opinions does Michigan or Nebraska-Omaha (who I have only paid attention to this year) have a legitimate shot at defeating BC? I know the old saying anything can happan on any given night, but in your opinions can they or is BC just too good this year?

Hopefully we get Burlon back on the blueline this weekend. He had a very bad allergic reaction early this week to his antibiotics for strep throat to the point where he couldn't swallow. We got Louie back on Friday and he looked great this weekend. David Wohlberg should be our only missing player. It is a big injury since he was our second leading scorer.

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

The problem is the host rule. It's gotta go. BC should be in Manchester. UNH basically bought their way to a home game as a 4-seed. Silliness.

Sounds great, but the NCAA wants neutral sites (in the east, anyway) and single-elimination. Too bad, because I think that would be a great format.

So have other teams. You have a better idea?

Maybe the ACHA has the right idea. Sixteen teams, one location, four games in five days to win it all. ;) :D

In all seriousness, let me ask a question. Would it be better to hold the regionals in smaller venues rather than the larger NHL/AHL arenas?

I recall being at Van Andel for the 07 Midwest and thought the crowd for the MSU-ND final "appeared" small just because of the size of the place.

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Yes. Change the rule so that a host school doesn't have to play in their region. Or just make Providence host every year since they never make the tournament. :p

I also think this idea would be great. But then we would have people complaining about seeding. "My team shouldn't be a 3, were definitely a 2"

I know the coaches (or at least most of them) want this type of format, so it wouldn't surprise me if it happened. They already do the same thing for the Women's Tournament (albeit single elimination).

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

EagleFan........I was referring to the conversation between Fighting Sioux 23 and chickod not Melrose and Ritchlin. Maybe you should realize what the post is about before you refer to someone as an idiot. So you are the idiot, and yeah I still do think you have a man crush on Ritchlin. F BC!!!!!

you are all over him yet it is you that didn't do your homework and assumed chickod is a BC fan............

People would complain whatever the system is. Seeding is determined by the PWR, so it would be difficult to get too upset about the seeding. I also think they should have the second round at the higher seed as well, best 2 of 3. Then skip the bye week before the Frozen Four, so it doesn't take any more additional time than it does right now.
