2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

LOL!!! I love it. The BC guy says stop whining to the UND guy, but then continues to whine himself. I love it. Poor BC....

There is SO much eastern-bias at ESPN it makes me wanna puke watching it every year. I do love though how none of the three no jack about college hockey, but at the end Buccigross calls it "the greatest game".

Go SIOUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "BC guy" is a Michigan graduate. Idiot.

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

One of the overall themes I've been hearing is location, location, location.

As mentioned, two hosts got into the tournament. For Yale, it didn't matter because they were the #1 seed. However, as mentioned UNH got a weak seed and caused the flip flop of BC to STL and Miami to MHT.

One point I want to comment on is the point that Melrose had at the end with "Blasi going to be mad with [Miami] going East once again.

I've noticed that Miami has had to travel east to practically play BC/UNH in virtual home games over the past few years. I think most of us know what Melrose was getting at when he said that "You can walk from UNH to MHT". The fact of the matter is a #1 seed is going to be playing in a virtual home game for the #4 seed.

The crux of my point is this, host a regional. Miami is a national power, so Blasi has to convince the Miami admins to bid for a regional in Cincy, Dayton (those I'm not sure if there is an ice arena big enough), or even Toledo (with their brand new downtown arena they've opened up in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, in that part of the country, there aren't many neutral sites and Goggin is far too small. Why you do think UNH puts bids to host tournaments every other year. It's a competative advantage they are going to use if they can.

Sure the process isn't perfect, but that's the way the puck bounces.

Im sure the NCAA would love to see Cincy on their map again after that wildly successful Frozen Four! There just really isnt enough around Miami that will result in attendance. The arenas there are too large really for an NCAA regional. Plus, Notre Dame hosted in Fort Wayne IN last year and that was a disaster.

UNH hosts about every other year. Come on, the East/Northeast is always either at Manchester or Worcester. The NCAA wont put one in Portland Maine because of the lack of luxury boxes and locker rooms. When was the last time Providence hosted one at the Dunkin Donuts arena? What about in Lowell? Rochester? Springfield?

That's what they get for having a regional in an NHL arena; way too big.

For the record, I don't think BC got "screwed". They can win this regional, IMO. I will just watch on TV. Save my money for the FF. ;)

I know it has been posted before, but what will be the TV schedule for the West regional.

I think Game 1 is being televised at 11:30PM ET on ESPNU (tape delay). Game 2 is at 9:00PM ET (live).

I apologize oh wise Easterner that I did not know that. Seems to me like you want to date the guy or something. Got a little man-crush going on????

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Wow...little respect for Air Force yet again. No video, no pics, no nothing. Not even mention that Air Force beat Yale earlier in the season. Oh well, life of an underdog...

Air Force gets a lot more respect here in New Haven than down in Bristol.

Fact: Air Force beat Yale this year (gave them their first loss of the season)
Fact: Last time regional was in Bridgeport Air Force beat the #1 seed (Michigan) while Yale lost to Vermont.

Opinion: Yale can sruggle against teams that play a similar style. It won't be an easy game.

That's exactly my point. Let's face it, the Northeast Regional is the "Hockey East" sponsor. In HE land, there are plenty of 5-10K arenas. However, it has to be the school that bids on the regional. Maine has to be the school to bid for Portland, PC for Providence (it's sad, because Providence has been a very good city for NCAA hockey). My school can certainly host a regional, but they have to get there for the first time in 15 years. The last NCAA HE regional I can remember not hosted in MHT/ORH was a few years back when UMass hosted in Amherst during the 2005 season. That was a disaster, the final betwen UNH/Denver drew a paltry 3442 in an arena that seats 8.5K.

The only schools that will draw attendance to NE regionals is when they are hosted at ORH (BC/BU) or MHT (UNH). That's why the other schools don't even bother with bids because they won't get the attendance if their team isn't in it. For most, they can't afford the expense if they lose money at it.

I just now realized that it is YOU who is the idiot because I was talking about two people on this forum not the guys on the selection show. Typical know it all from Boston and you had no idea what the hell you were talking about.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SIOUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So pointing out that a guy you called "a BC guy" was not in fact a BC guy and was instead a "Michigan guy" makes me "want to date the guy or something?" God you are dumb.

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Settle down chief, I wasn't complaining. I was simply stating that DU and UND are clearly the top two teams in the WCHA, and it's too bad that they MAY have to meet up in the Regional Finals.
It's just bad luck, and if the regional final materializes and matches the F5 game in closeness like MN-UND did four years ago, the winners will be the fans.

Perhaps the better solution would be to have Conferences bid on regionals as opposed to individual schools. Then they could schedule something to where the Conference Champion automatically gets placed in its Conference's regional.

I guess you can't read very well. I said I am a BU fan (Boston University, you know?). And you're missing the point. It's not about WHO gets screwed. It's about it's not necessary for ANYONE to get screwed. If they eliminate the "hosting" rule (let the league host the regional, not the school), then they could have moved UNH out West. Why should the #1 seed get moved? You didn't - and you shouldn't have. This year, it worked out perfectly - all of the #1 seeds were geographically from different regions and all COULD HAVE BEEN placed close to home (Yale in Bridgeport, Miami in St. Louis, UND in Green Bay and BC in Manchester). All I'm saying is that the NCAA complains about attendance, and it is supposed to be a "consideration," but then they make TWO schools with large fan bases move.

Very true. As I said, I'm not complaining about it, it is what it is. The committee followed the PWR almost exactly, and the only swap was a justified one. They did a very good job on the bracket. If DU and UND do wind up playing, then I'm sure it will be another very good game.

EagleFan........I was referring to the conversation between Fighting Sioux 23 and chickod not Melrose and Ritchlin. Maybe you should realize what the post is about before you refer to someone as an idiot. So you are the idiot, and yeah I still do think you have a man crush on Ritchlin. F BC!!!!!

Sorry, how could I EVER get confused about that when you started a thread complaining about ESPN. Doesn't change the fact that you are in fact a dumbass. Thanks for playing though.

You know there is something on this board called a quote feature..... so people would know what post you are talking about.

Re: 2011 NCAA Selection Show Thread

Manchester should have great attendance with UNH and all the Merrimack fans that have been coming out of the woodwork.
