2011 Division III Commitments

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

I think most would say it is the second best US junior league, but a case could probably be made for the EJHL as well. The later has a lot of younger, high-end skilled players. The NAHL still produces good DIII players, but the league was much better 15-20 years. IMHO it has too many teams now.

thnks for the info, I did check out the commitments page and a bunch of D1 guys, and DIII....

The people who watch the EJHL and NAHL a lot say that they are just very different leagues. NAHL draws more older kids and the established teams have more intra-squad depth. The EJHL has a lot of younger, but very skilled kids and a couple who are drafted into the NHL each year (like Charlie Coyle). The jump from either up to the USHL is sizable. People I trust have also told me that the NAHL is a bit below the BCHL and the AJHL (Alberta). Believe it or not, however, there was once a time many, many years ago, when the NAHL was better than the USHL.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure NAHL is considered the second best United States junior league next to the USHL.

It's right up there with the BCHL.

1.BCHL
2.USHL
3.EJHL-AJHL
4.NAHL -OPJHL - CJHL
5. AtJHL

10. NorPac - WSHL - NA3HL

I know the Manitoba league is considered a step down, but where does the SJHL stack up between say the AJHL and MJHL?

It is not as good as the AJHL, but better than the MJHL (at least when measuring the number of NCAA DI scholarship players it produces). I don't know if Manitoba has the population to support good WHL teams and a good Tier-II league. The USHL is by all metrics the best Tier-II (I.E. non-CHL) league in North America. It is now stronger than the BCHL.

I have a son who played in the USHL, NAHL and EJHL and I would have to agree 100% with the above post.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Yes, I'd put them like this:

1.USHL
2.BCHL
3.NAHL-OJHL-AJHL-EJHL
(Prep Leagues)
9.GOJHL-AtJHL-MJHL

Many of the teams in the OJ are below par as might be expected with a 40 team league. Add the COJHL ( Central Ontario Jr Hockey League) to that mix. The ECAC Dl teams recruit very heavily there. Drop the Prep leagues a notch . The Preps are good but younger and with a huge swing in depth and talent from the top teams to the bottom. My guy played in both and I did some recruiting in both. The oddest Jr A league on the continent is the Quebec Jr AAA ....high scoring games with very very few English guys. Everybody dangles and games are shootouts. NCAA coaches Dl and Dll don't trust the stats ...skewed offensively and defensively.

3rd round pick in the 09 draft and he's going D-III? Interesting...
