2011 Division III Commitments

Re: Definition of Shady

Re: Definition of Shady

was that a typo or did Gustavus Adolphus get a 6'8" netminder??? ..... also can anyone confirm that Oz did indeed get RJay Berra and what happened to Popek, where did he land???

http://ojhl.pointstreaksites.com/view/ojhl/news-21/news_30785 Jason Popek got a D1 ride @ AIC. The way it sounds is he wasn't coming to Ozz this year either way since it said he was going to be heading to his post-secondary scholastic career at Brock University . As for the 6'8" netminder that is not a typo http://sijhl_cms.stats.pointstreak.com/playerpage.html?playerid=4225302&seasonid=6718 6'8" with great stats.

Berra is ON the Oswego student directory...so I would say yes to that question...

Don't know how much you can trust student directory information for a few days after school starts. Lot of info is put in before the students drive, and until all the no shows are purged, you can't be sure.

I think oswego had a transfer goalie who was on campus for all of 3 days a couple of years ago. The student directory is far from reliable.

Depends on how IT maintains the directory. I'm still listed in the Faculty directory with an office and a phone number. I haven't had either for 2.5 years.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Adrian graduated 17 and are only replacing that number with 14?

Between the guy I just remembered to carry over from the 2010 listings and the return of Chris Stansik from injury, it ups the total to 16.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Nice article. But I'm wondering what kind of "scholarship" he recieved this late in the summer. Obviously there are no athletic scholarships in D3 and it's hard to believe that Neumann is willing to give a kid a big scholarship right before classes start.

Scholarship in DIII = Yes you can make the team....thats about it. Dont read into it.

Junior team & league press releases announcing players "signing" with NCAA schools are less about being happy for that particular player than they are about selling themselves to prospective future players. I've seen some that talk about scholarships even with players going to schools only with club teams.

According to Dictionary.com
schol·ar·ship   [skol-er-ship]
noun
1.learning; knowledge acquired by study; the academic attainments of a scholar.
2.a sum of money or other aid granted to a student, because of merit, need, etc., to pursue his or her studies.
3.the position or status of such a student.
4.a foundation to provide financial assistance to students.

So, if he received any need-based or merit based aid, even a single penny, he has received a "scholarship". Even if he didn't, he has still received a "scholarship" because he has been granted the opportunity to be a scholar at this institution.

And that is exactly why the junior teams and leagues use this ambiguous terminology. :)

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

So, I'll just file this under "rumor" but I've heard Elmira could have a foreign goalie (I think it was a Swiss goalie) coming in this season that could push for significant playing time. How reliable this is? No clue, but I'm content with rumor mongering.
