2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Well, after a bit of irregular sprint, Ale-Jet wins stage 1 ahead of Cav. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, the Italian jury awards the stage to Petacchi. Good win for the old man!

Highlight of the day: Katusha rider wrecking from the second break for no apparent reason.

Secondary Highlight: Lang's 200 K TT for the Green Jersey.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I am not a big fan of Cav but it seemed as if he got screwed by home country judges today as Ale-Jet in no way came close to holding his line but wasn't relegated. I remember a stage in the tour of the Basque where LL Sanchez basically gave Freire a pat on the back and Freire got relegated here Pettachi basically cut Cav off.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Stage still underway but Wouter Weylandts has crashed and was receiving CPR on the road...it didn't look good.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Well the latest word is that be didn't make it...RIP Wouter.

The stage continued on and Angel Vicioso won the stage from a late 5 man break I think David Miller is the new GC leader. I expect tomorrows stage will be nullified.

Cycling News confirms Weylandt died. :(

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

What little coverage they showed on Universal looked pretty bad their was a lot of blood on the road.

I watched the interview on Velonews with the DS of Garmin and he made it sound real ugly.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I'm debating changing my Saeco jersey (which I'm psyched to have) to a Leopard jersey as a memorial to Weylandt. I've got to expect a neutralized stage tomorrow, which is sad (obviously) as Ale-Jet is within 13 seconds of the lead an a stage win puts him in pink.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Contador crushes the peloton on Etna winning by 3 sec over Rujano and 50 over a pack with Nibali and Roman in it, then another 17 seconds to Scarponi, who made the mistake of going with Conti before cracking.

I hope Conti doesn't win this thing by like 10 minutes.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

First stage of the Tour of California canceled due to weather i.e. snow didn't they move this thing to May for better weather? Nice climb up Etna but with 5 more mountaintop finishes I don't think this is over but Contador has looked strong the last two days and the other contenders have not. My team looking good with 4 in the top 10 but I didn't take Alberto.

No need to continue to watch the Giro according to Schlanger and Go Go because Contador picked up such a huge amount of time Sunday, you know about a minute that hardly anybody else has a chance unless he crashes or fails his **** test. Rather than stressing that the race isn't over 5 mountain top finishes Contador only has a minute lead, some of the riders have stronger teams they spent today's stage talking about how Contador has it won. Any casual fan would listen to them and say why am I watching this?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Interesting shake up at The Tour of California, Heydadal is up the road on Sierra Road and Horner pulls Levi the wheelsucker up to him. Figure Levi will follow Horner up the road. Not the case Horner blows up the climb leaving everyone in the dust finishing 1:15 ahead of Andy Schleck, Rory Sutherland and Levi. Way to go Chris :D

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I love how Hesjedal said in the interview after how, after Horner dropped them, Levi just hung on his wheel, so that was it for them. :D

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I like Chris Horner but I am not so sure about this...

......it’s pretty simple to see that in the last four years my form has been with the best in the world and with the exception of Alberto Contador I don’t think there’s anyone that can drop me.”

I don't doubt his form being good but only Alberto can drop him....hmmmm...
