2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Alberto CONTADOR
Andy SCHLECK
Remy DI GREGORIO
Pierrick FEDRIGO
Mark CAVENDISH
Jérémy ROY
Stuart O'GRADY
Daniel NAVARRO
Brent BOOKWALTER

Not sold on him though, and might try to figure some way to add Kloden instead.

I thought about Wheel Sucker because I think he is in good form. However, I was worried about too many GC'ers on Radioshack.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

rufus, wow, Roche and Gadret on the same team. Aren't you afraid Nico will finally kill Gadret for the incident last year?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I noticed no one has Fabian Cancellara right now.

Is there a reason people are staying away from him this year? Is he no longer a virtual lock to win the time trials anymore or is he in poor form right now?

As i've said countless times I only follow this sport during the Tour so please any help would be appreciated for this "fairweather" cycling fan :)

There is only one ITT this year in Stage 20 so while Cancellara could very well win it, that is most likely the only real points he will give a team. Although Leopard-trek could I suppose win the TTT, but I would think that Garmin at least will do better. Also in my mind with the ITT in the next to last stage why take the chance that he will even still be in the Tour. I could very well see him drop out by then or be so spent that he's might not win. Bottom line for me is that there are better ways to spend those 8 points. But be warned I usually finish crappy in the standings so take my "advise" with a huge grain of salt!

Refresh my memory, I don't recall.

yeah, that's an issue too, and while Levi and kloden will probably finish pretty high overall, I don't think either can hang for points on the mountain stages. They'll be there, but come in around 10-15th, 30 seconds or a minute back, and so not score much in the fantasy standings.

My final roster:

Contador
Wiggins
Van Den Brouck
Gadret
Greipel
De Gendt
Ignatiev
Roche
Gilbert

I really wanted to call them Levi's Wheelsuckers, though.

Roche had a mechanical and Gadret refused to give up his bike or wait for him I believe even though Roche was 7th or 8th overall. I called my team the wheelsuckers even though I have no wheelsuckers on it maybe I should change it to the anti wheelsuckers.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

But they're still together on AG2R, so I assume they don't hate each other, or Roche would have killed him by now. If Gadret rides the Tour like he did the Giro, he'll earn a lot of points.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

If Gadret rides the Tour like he did the Giro, he'll earn a lot of points.

From the famous last words department: No chance, just none. If for no other reason then the difficulty of the Giro. In fact if Contador were anyone but Conti, he'd have no chance at TDF.

If John Gadret is found dead in his hotel room in the morning, I will probably be the primary suspect...I had great difficulty in not putting his head through the nearest window.

Also of interest:
If I go to the Tour, it will be as a support rider for [Jean Christophe] Péraud and [Nicolas] Roche...if I go to the Tour, it will not be to aim for the general classification.

Hmmmm, may need to change a rider there.

Gadret and Ignatiev out, Kiriyenko and Duque in.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Just a couple of tidbits before Saturday...

The neutralized section will include the Passage du Gois: Unfortunately they won't race over it like this. Place your bets on the Euskatel rider who crashes out before the actual start...or will it be Frank Schleck or Denis Menchov?
Then the finish is perfect for Gilbert:

Matt, I don't think that Fedrigo is riding, I had him on my prelim roster, but don't think he made the start list for FDJ.

Also bad, or I should say disappointing new, Zomegan is fired from running the Giro...Giro has been the best GT for the last 5 years or so, and yet he's gone.

Looks like a big field this year, 7 or so, I expect I'm ready for the lantern rouge this year! Is anyone happy with their team? I'm really not. I'd kill for even another 2 points, then I could get Dumolin...another like 6 and I could get Samu or someone similar.

Anyway off to the Mont des Alouettes tomorrow, and stage 1 for Gilbert.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Fun start. Nice to see the favorites spot Cadel and here is a USCHO mini league code of 02162736.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

So that was interesting, huh? Phil Gilbert with the easy win first of 2? 3? 4? Is Super Besse too much? Also after much controversy, it looks like Shlecklette will start with 74 seconds over Conti, I suspect that goes out a bit tomorrow (depending on wind) but that Conti starts the race about 1:30ish down which should make him attack, so that should be fun! Conti is still the betting favorite according to Euro bookmakers.

I suspect that Conti will try and take time on Super Besse so that could make things tough for Gilbert.

Also I really enjoyed the new intermediate sprint, funny to see Cav stuff it up! He just can't be bothered to win the intermediate sprints, can he?

P.S. Sagard, Probert already had a mini league set up, posted on the previous page of the thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I am of the opinion that in the event of any accident caused by a fan the team car should be allowed to tune them up once they get the rider going. What a moron basically standing all by himself by the side of the road yet he has to jam his sign in the peloton and cause a pile up. It wasn't even like in the mountains when they are 15 deep.

I am beginning to regret picking Cav today is a perfect example of why he may never win the green jersey. Intermediate sprint, he's out front Tyler and Greipel pass him so rather than continuing the sprint and finishing 7th or 8th he gives up and finishes 12th if he does that a couple of times there goes the green jersey.

Is Craig Hummer going from pre-game show to interviewing riders considered a promotion or demotion?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Yeah, that is the controversy I referred to. I'm not sure that 76 riders made it past Iglinsky's crash, but thats what the jury ruled. Everyone who got past the first wreck, except Gilbert, Evans, and "Pefect 10" Carlos Barredo (time penalty) got 6 sec. The second crash was inside 3K and despite the fact that the Mont des Alouette was a cat 4 the stage was considered a flat stage so the 3 K rule applied. It will not apply in stage 4 for the Mur. Thus, the rest finished further behind. So yes, Conti and Schlecklette finished together but A. Schleck actually "finished" 1:21 earlier. Conti and Samu both 1:21, the garmin GC guys were like 1:55, VdV was 3+.

Since I'm 1 for 1 so far, I'll throw out another pick for tomorrow...I suspect the usual suspects in the TTT and will go with HTC FTW tomorrow, meaning T. Martin in yellow.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

One of my favorite stages of the TdF and I'm glad it's back this year...Team time trial day!!

I'm pulling for a Radioshack win considering I have three of them on velogames team.

SaxoBank has set the quick time so far but Rabobank is probably going to take that over here real soon.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Garmin sets a blistering time of 24:45....

I dont know if anyone is going to be able to top that one.

Thor Hushvod looking golden for the Yellow Jersey right now.

Of course this is the year I finally switch over to Cavendish and not take Hushovd as my sprinter

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I don't think the Garmin time is as good as it appears. For example Sky bettered it at the 1st check, and they are only 28 sec clear of Saxo at the finish. Not saying they won't win, but Sky, HTC, Shack, and I guess Leopard have a shout at it.

So far the LOL moment of the tour, Tony Gallopin of Cofidis got dropped on the start ramp.
