2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Really? Thats one of my favorite in cycling!

When LL first was riding with His Yellowness, LA didn't know his name so he'd just look at him and say "Bottle," meaning go get me a bottle.

Never heard that one! It great!! :)

I'm just used to everyone calling him wheel sucker! ;)

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Wheel sucker, yes, but surely all must tremble in fear now that he is down a minute and must surely attack!

I am sure the other GC'ers are trembling with fear! ;) Seriously the contenders for the third spot on the podium (not AS or AC as I figure they are 1 - 2 in no particular order) shouldn't completely ignore him. I think he is in good form and he can certainly TT with anyone of the GC'ers. If he can wheel suck off of someone who attacks out of a GC group (someone looking for a top 10 but not a podium threat) then he could certainly move up the GC. And he's still ahead of AC in the overall! ;)

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Actually the real darkhorse I see for the podium at this point, and I agree with you about AC and AS, is Basso. His crash on Etna and his abortion of a Dauphine had me doubting his form. Then he got dropped before the bridge the other day, but if he rides into stage 12 only a minute down, he might just grind his way to the podium. Then there is Evans.

As for Bottle, I think he might have gone just a hair too deep to win Suisse. I always thought that Kloeden and Horner were better long term bets for RS...

Super Besse will be interesting.

I always worry about Basso's TT ability. Although with only one TT this year it might not hurt him too badly. Admittedly I don't follow him too closely so has his TT gotten better?

Yeah, Evans just might end up on the podium this year. It wouldn't surprise me.

I have more faith in LL ability to wheel suck his way to a better finish than I do for Kloden or Horner to make a big splash. Heck if for no other reason than LL will wheel suck off of them. I can't see him being able to take a huge turn and pull either of them up a mountain if necessary but I am **** sure he could wheel suck behind one of them!

Levi had his best career result in my opinion winning that Swiss race. Even at his tip top form he isn't a podium threat in this race, so why not win a decent stage race if possible. Cunego should be ****ed he didn't go deep enough in Switzerland.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Basso is certainly not the "extraterrestrial" of pre-Puerto and his TT is terrible, but he did win a brutal Giro last year with his climbing, and the Grenoble TT is not simply flat. He rode Evans off his wheel at least twice, Zoncolon and Mortimolo with his diesel climbing, and Evans can suck wheels with the best (I guess we'll test that, huh?). So Basso is still in with a shout. I think all 3 Shacks could be in trouble with Basso, Evans, Gesink (assuming that he doesn't crash again), Sanchez (if he catches a break), VDB2, F. Schleck, and Wiggins, all fighting for 1 spot on the podium. I can see a scenario where all of those beat any of the Shacks and only Sanchez has dumped time. Moreover, if pressed to rank them plus the 3 Shacks as to their GC potential, I'd rank the Shacks low in that list. But then I hate all things Shack.

Major Crash! Wiggins is out with broken collarbone. Horner was last reported to be 3 minutes back and chasing more or less alone. Kloeden is in the front group with AS, AC, Basso, Sanchez, Evans, Gesink, and most of the main favorites. Second group is about 2 minutes down and Bottle just punctured out of that group. The main sprinters all seem to be there.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

HTC dominates, Cav with an easy victory ahead of Petacchi and Greipel. Farrar was delayed in the crash...Second group is now 2 minutes back and just came under the flame rouge, so I expect something close to 3:10ish.

Could Cunego possible ride top 10?!? Via Damiano!

Continue to regret my decision to not go with Kloden. :(

I've had him every year I've played this game...

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

If he has any type of concussion I assume they won't let Horner start. Interesting that Boonen pulled out 2 days after his crash I guess he tried to tough it out but couldn't continue. Plus as USCHO weeps Levi falls another 3 minutes left I guess when he starts his major mountain attack next week they might let him go.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I feel like Thor with my Velogames team. I'm holding the lead, but once the serious mountains arrive I'm toast.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Not sure about that. Have you looked at the other teams? Most teams have had the GC riders wittled down substancially. Speaking for myself, I've only got AC...Gesink is done, I expect him to withdraw very soon...he's been talking about since his crash and losing a minute on Super-Besse should kill any morale. CAS is a domestic and T. Martin well I can't image he'll factor except in the TT. I think someone might have the AC/ A. Schleck combo but you're lead is pretty good and Gilbert will continue to help out!

Another call for Cunego to keep going well!

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Great Tour thus far aside from all the crashes taking out GC contenders.
Gilbert and Hushovd are killing it so far!
Too bad about Wiggins and Horner... :(

I have both Conti and ASchleck on my fantasy team, but I think the fact I have neither Gilbert/Hushovd will definitely hurt me if they continue to fight it out for green.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I knew someone did, but you don't have Gilbert...his points should help offset the lack of one of the big guys.

Any it has been a good tour so far, its been kind of like a Giro set up. Not many superflat sprint stages and a medium mountain fairly early to help sort the contenders from the pretenders. I think AC is top 20 now. Tomorrow looks good for Gilbert again. Some nasty (for the Tour) mountains (>10%) in the middle of the stage but I'm not sure BMC or OPL will ride hard to drop Hushovd 50K from the line. I think maybe a break tomorrow?!?

Also, should have mentioned it in my last, but really good to see Movistar get a win after the season they've had! I mean Tondo was supposed to be the team leader here with Soler. One is dead, the other slipping into and out of a coma.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

What the heck happened to Vino? He was closing on Costa they cut the cameras back to the peloton as the fireworks erupted in the last K and a half and then all of a sudden he's caught. Very surprised he faltered so quickly or the time checks were off and he didn't have as big of a lead as they set. Also a yeomans effort by Van Gaarderen to win the stage good to see him get the polka dot.

As for my team Cav has been getting me points and I have the AC Schleck combo and my 2 point guys Gauthier was in the break today Roux has been in a break and Roy have scored me more than most 2 point picks but of my other picks Horner, crashed out and Egoi and Chris Anker Sorenson have done nothing.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Edvald Boasson Hagen gets it right today! Wins ahead of Goss and Hushovd. Contador had another tough day with 2 bike changes but was there at the end and helped chase down a late Vandert attack.

Also of note Bottle loses a minute, so Kloeden only has to deal with Horner now for the team lead.

Flat day tomorrow, Cav?

How could Levi have ridden into the guardrail without the guy in front of him hitting it first?

My teams toast, with Kiriyenka and now Wiggins out of the race. I really thought Wiggins would do really well this year, maybe a top five. Now I need Van Den Broucke to do a good overall ride to help offset that loss.
