2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

big crash in the main pack on a descent claims a few more riders today.

Vino looks like his tour is over as he went off the road and into the woods and needed to be helped back to the road by two or three teammates.

Radioshack's bad luck continues as Andreas Kloden was involved. He's back on his bike but he was shaken up.

Jurgen Vandenbroeck also involved in crash and he has been forced to abandon as well.

Dave zabriskie with a fractured wrist is out and they are reporting a fractured pelvis on vino.

Another crash-marred day.

Voeckler looking great for yellow right now as the crash allowed his breakaway group to open up a 7 minute lead on the peloton. However, they started to slowly reel the group back in and it's down to around 5 minutes with 60 kilos left.

Voeckler only needs 1:39 to catch hushovd.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I'm starting to be annoyed by Leopard's riding style. First I'm stunned that neither Schleck, both noted bikehandlers, have been on the pavement yet. But more that they are almost always the second team in line but rarely on the front. Except it seems when there is a crash then they are instantly on the front. Especially today, on Eurosport, they mentioned that they wanted to ride hard after the crash and only Hushovd refused and called for them to wait for the domestics. Now they let the 3 OPL riders pull, seriously I think there might only be a few OPLs left, as VDB, Vande Walle, and Wilhems are out.

Via Damiano!

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Unreal. It's amazing things like that don't happen more often to be honest.

But still, terrible terrible decision by that driver to try and make that move. Throw the freaking breaks on! The riders are right next to you.

Feel so bad for Hoogerland.

I'll be honest when I listen to them talk they seem to be full of crap. In the TDF preview show Frank said something to the effect of we would never do anything like that, referring to chaingate, yet a week earlier in the Tour de Suisse when Mollema who was in second had a flat tire Leopard went to the front and drilled it to put Frank who was in 4th on the podium. If you aren't going to wait that's fine but don't act like you are the high and mighty sporting riders and everybody else doesn't follow the unwritten rules of the race. If Andy or Frank gets caught up in a crash I am willing to bet that Rabobank will be willing to help Saxo drill the pace.

At least Two more GC contenders out today, depending on what is up with Kloden. I really only see about 5 podium contenders Scleck's X2, Contador, Sanchez and Evans. Someone like Roche could sneak in but the list of podium contenders is dwindling.

It just keeps getting better.

I've got Contador and that's it, and the way he keeps falling all over the place, i'm not expecting him to be in there much longer.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

You've certainly had a rough go of it.

I'm expecting the same fate of Leipheimer soon and I have AC as well.

I've lost Garate and Brajkovic so far.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

In regards to the green jersey why don't teams like HTC and Movistar send out some guys to try and steal points from Gilbert if Cav and Rojas aren't there? I understand you don't want to risk your main GC guy but if you have 4-5 guys in the group why don't you send someone out to see if you can knock him back a spot or two. In the last 3-4 years the green jersey has been decided in the last day or two so every point can count.

They said on today's VS. broadcast that Cav has said he doesn't care about the green jersey, just stage wins. Not sure about Rojas.

So who thinks that Karpets dumped AC on purpose? The video sure makes it look that way.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

In talking about GC contenders, you forgot the 2004 Giro Champ! Via Damiano!

And Karpets definately dumped him on purpose. Also *** to the car driver!

TV another 10 days in yellow?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

When Cunego can show me he can TT and ride 2 good mountain stages in a row I will consider him a podium contender. With all the crash outs he might crack the top 10.

Supposedly Contador was having trouble with his handlebars which caught against Karpets seat and sent him down that's Contadors explanation.

Supposedly Cav was going for green this year and he isn't too far out this year if Gilbert continues to pick up points on the non flat stages he will probably be tough to beat.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Gotta have some faith in the Little Prince! But seriously in your podium contenders you did forget Basso. He has 1:30 over Samu at the moment and with all the carnage, eventually Frank has to go down, right? RIGHT? Fully expect the climb up Luz Ardiden we'll see 30 minutes of Voeckler suffereing a climb of AC winning with the Pistol celebration then back to the Voeckler show! Also Gilbert remains a beast!

I heard that explanation too and I don't believe it. I am not an expert bike rider but I have never seen anyone use the head butt move to separate themselves from another rider who is having trouble with their handlebars.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Yeah, I'm thinking with the main contenders dropping like they are, Basso might just be squeezing his way into contention for the overall. if his form is even close to being good, he might have a chance.

I think Contador initiated the contact and may have been in the process of going down when getting hit. He has NO reason not to scream bloody murder if he in fact really wasn't to blame. I knew I was screwing AC over by putting him on my velogames roster, but I had no idea it would be this violent. I'm actually starting to feel for him.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Yaroslav Popovych abandons before the start of today's stage with a fever making it 3 Radioshack riders gone now.
