2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

That was not what I expected today. I really did not expect Schleck to pull a Landis :D somehow the last attack far from the
finish by a contender in the Tour didn't get mentioned today. He still needs more time in order to win so I expect he will attack tomorrow.

Nice effort by Evans to keep his chance alive and Voeckler in defense of the jersey.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Guys - hope you are all enjoying the Tour. I never get much of a chance to post anymore, but we have been following the racing all season. Lost in all the discussion of Andy's attack and Voeckler hanging tough is that there was a change in the Lanterne Rouge standings with Fabio Sabatini taking the lead. Enjoy the next couple of days.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I'm surprised he (Sabatini) was able to get it off Amador. His (Amador's) ankle was pretty messed at the beginning of the tour.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Excellent racing today Cadel hung tough despite the Schlecks trying to temp him into taking the lead so they could jump him at
the finish. Looks like Cadel vs the Schlecks tomorrow for the win. Great win today by Pierre Rolland hopefully he can live with
being France's next great hope. Valiant defense of the jersey by Voeckler.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Happy France got their stage win! Also a big Gracias to Alberto Contador for really livening up the Tour this year. He rode like a champion, just sad that he is tainted by both the beef and having been on Team Hogstrong. And how awesome is this that the best GT rider of this generation says things like this.
"Last night when I was in my bed, I told myself: ‘Are you going to just stay in the peloton with no pain and no glory? I couldn't stand the idea of leaving this race without doing anything. So all I could think of today was attacking."
Can anyone picture LA or A. Schleck saying that?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

So the stage win for stage 20 is determined, Tony Martin...now we just have to wait to see who wins Le Tour!

Also this is so cool:

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Titliest - better yet about AC - did you see him smack the fan running along side him on Alpe d'Huez? Fan dressed as a doctor with a stethoscope reaching over to AC to try and check his heart beat and AC just smacked him. Just great. However, my son liked the Tour motorcyclist that was helping clear the path that shoved the woman into the crowd who was running along side the riders.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Carl, you mean this guy? 352930744.jpg My only regret is that Contador only weighs 60Kg. and none of that weight is in his arms so the punch likely didn't do much. Though it did remind me of when Simoni smacked a tifosi in the Giro a number of years ago.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Andy Schleck continues to show his weakness in the ITT.

Evans has already made up pretty much the entire 57 seconds.

Frank was even faster than Andy at the first time check.

Maybe Evans has spent himself and Andy was saving himself for the hilly portion, but certainly not looking good at the moment for Andy.

Go Cadel!

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Cadel is taking the Schlecks to the woodshed!!!

What a ride by the Aussie. Definitely well deserving if he can hold this. He's been around the top three for far too long in the TdF to never win one.

*crosses fingers* I'm hoping for an Evans, Contador, Voeckler final podium!

Unfortunately AC lost too much time early on to be a factor this year :(..still two great rides the last two days.

He'll be back and hopefully on a stronger team because Saxo bank was quite unimpressive this year.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

It wasn't the lost time on day 1. It was the banged up knee. Specifically it was the 1st climb up the Galibier. And there is at least a 50% chance he isn't back next year. We'll find out in August. Scarponi may still win the Giro. Saxo's team was fine. Maybe substitute G. Larsson for Tossatto in the TTT but we've seen CAS (the other one), Hernandez, and Navarro be perfectly fine for domestiques. The Giro was a great example, he simply didn't need them, he attacked whenever he wanted and took time whenever he wanted.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Awesome tour this year. I think I'm primed for another Andy Schleck position in our velogames tour, unless Cav somehow doesn't place well in the final run in. I have to remember to just spend the #$%^ points for Cav, he is always worth it!

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Salute Cadel never been a big fan but this year he showed some strength early. BMC did a great TTT, always a weakness
when he was with Lotto and he hung tough. Dragged everybody else up the Galibier when Andy went and no one else would
work and hung tough on the Alpe yesterday. Then today he went out and smoked the Luxembourgers. As for the Sclecks Andy said the other day when asked how much time he thought he would need on the Alpe he said he was fine. Obviously not.
Either the Schlecks just can't time trial or aren't bothering to take the time to improve. Another good effort from Voeckler
unfortunately he couldn't beat Frank for the podium.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Great tour. Way better than the Giro. Big time riders winning lots of stages.

HTC and Cav control this one from 50k out.

Good for Cadel. Good for Contador and Schlecks.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

So it seems as if this US tour in Colorado is going to have almost as many big names as the Vuelta with Horner, Levi, Cadel and the Schlecks on board.

Hold on now, that isn't quite true. Anton, Purito, Nibali, Scarponi, Menchov, Sastre, Cav, Sagan, Wiggins, off the top of my head, likely Boonen, Greipel, Kittel, for worlds prep. Moncoutie will probably win KoM again. All that with out looking to see if there is a startlist out yet. Gilbert wouldn't surprise me, again for Worlds Prep and I guess, Farrar, Feuille and any other sprinter...maybe Petacchi, maybe Cunego. Also I know Mosquera and Astaloza are both on their teams pre-selections list so both *could* ride but both have dope related concerns to deal with...Eze is "clear" but Vacan thinks it would be shady until clear one more court case and Astaloza might need more conditioning.
