2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

So Chris Froome moves into the lead of the Vuelta in a big upset today finishing second to Tony Martin in the time trial. To me it looks to be a two man race between Wiggo and Nibali. Some surprises though in addition to Froome who thought that Jakob Fuglsang, Fredrik Kessiakoff, Maxime Monfort and Bauke Mollema would be in the top 10 at this point in the race. Maybe one will break through and be the winner. For Sky is Froome going to work for Wiggo or not?

Unfortunately I missed the final stage of the Colorado race as the NBC coverage was preempted for Hurricane coverage and I had no power during the Versus coverage. I am sure Levi was his usually aggressive self to keep his win.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Should be a fun stage tomorrow. Kittle drops before the serious weekend stages, I guess I'm not too surprised.

I'm hoping for some serious battles this weekend. Six guys within 36s with 20 seconds to the winner, and six second intermediate sprints.

Yes it's late in the season, nobody cares, but this has still be pretty fun to watch given free Universal this month on Directv.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Yeah. Directv Channel 625 has been showing them live. I thought it was supposed to end Sept 1st, but the race was on today. Froom and Wiggins are in good position, I could see them pulling a Schleck 2/3 ranking if they Wiggins doesn't have the goods tomorrow and Froom tries to save him instead of simply winning the race himself.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Cobo takes the lead with two good mountain stages back to back. Wiggo fades a little but still within striking distance. it appears as if Nibali is out of the running.

I think it is over from a GC perspective. Froome loses due to his team trying to save it for Wiggins last week. Sky would have had to been pretty shrewd to back Froome, but I think he would have won this with Wiggins backing him on Stage 11 instead of vice versa.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Good for Chris Froome for actually going for it today, especially after he'd killed himself earlier in the week working for Wiggins. And what guts shown by Cobo for picking it up and riding back up to him after it looked like he'd completely cracked.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Unreal finish, huh? Harmon on Eurosport was convinced that Froome (a Brit, well actually a Kenyan) had won a grand tour and was going crazy. Got a bit annoying.

And yes, regrettably it seems that Bottle is going to Omega Pharma-Quickstep. So disappointing.

And with regards to the Shack-Leopard merger, I guess thats fine, since I hate everyone on that team except Cance, I hope he escapes somehow. Truth be told, if The Hog's direction of Hincapie at Roubaix is any indication, Cance has no chance.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

How many points would have gotten you Froome on velogames? I am guessing 6 at most. Nice last 3K today with time bonus I guess it is possible for Froome to take a run.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Couldn't have been many. I was wondering the same about Cobo, but you can't find their point values on the site anymore.

Cobo was quite a few points 12 or 14 I think, I considered taking him and decided he won't do anything Menchov is the Geox leader. :o

Looking at some of the overall leading teams, Froome was 4pts, Cobo 14pts.

Looks like George fixed Stage 12 and Avermaet's pts jumped from 10 to 95 putting me in the USCHO Red! :) After blowing the USCHO tour on the last two stages, I'm certainly capable of choking it away. Kind of hoping Froome pulls it out, but with how Sky managed the race Cobo probably deserves it.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Anton delivers a stage win to save a little face for the Euskatel carrots. Still disappointed with Sky not hedging their Wiggins bet after the time trial. Congrats to Cobo, Menchov, Sastre and the rest of those Geox boys though.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Big classics news today: A new finishing town and thus a new route for one of the two best races of the year. The Ronde will now finish in Oudenaarde not Meerbeke and the Muur Geraadsbergen aka Kapelmuur and the Bosberg are out instead there will be three accents of the Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg. It should make for a harder more selective race but is RvV without the Muur the same?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Martin dethrones Cance as the world TT champ. Directv appears to still be giving me Universal Sports (maybe I'm paying for it?) and the World Champs Road Race is this weekend. Hoping I can watch it. I'm hoping Cance sneaks away from all the sprinters and takes the race.
