2011 Cycling thread.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Cav's got a big payday coming.

So why's the Vuelta starting so early this year? I thought it was always the first week in September? I'm sure it will be some hot this yaer.

I believe they changed the dates to try and put a little more time between them and the world championships so everybody wouldn't leave the last week of the tour.

As for HTC if one of the most successful teams can't find sponsorship that really doesn't bode well for cycling.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Yeah, with teams folding together(first Garmin/Cervelo and now Quick Step and Omega Pharma), there's a lot of good riders on those teams gonna be squeezed out of roster spots, and then squeezing out others on whichever new team they end up signing with. A lot of good riders could be without contracts, or riding for the lesser squads next year.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

And they can all thank the dopers.

So they only have themselves to blame?

cause I'm pretty much of the opinion that, perhaps not now, but not in the too far distant past, that 95% of the pro peloton were doping. I'm pretty sure most of them are still.

Yup. I would pretty sure that advertising dollars are less easy to come by right now so let's see where would companies rather put their advertising dollars...with athletes who are the most notorious for doping or somewhere else?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Hold on now, that isn't quite true. Anton, Purito, Nibali, Scarponi, Menchov, Sastre, Cav, Sagan, Wiggins, off the top of my head, likely Boonen, Greipel, Kittel, for worlds prep. Moncoutie will probably win KoM again. All that with out looking to see if there is a startlist out yet. Gilbert wouldn't surprise me, again for Worlds Prep and I guess, Farrar, Feuille and any other sprinter...maybe Petacchi, maybe Cunego. Also I know Mosquera and Astaloza are both on their teams pre-selections list so both *could* ride but both have dope related concerns to deal with...Eze is "clear" but Vacan thinks it would be shady until clear one more court case and Astaloza might need more conditioning.

So your saying the Colorado start list of TDF podium; Cadel, Schleck Deux, Levi the Wheelsucker, Robert Gessink, Ryder Hesdal, Christian Vandervelde, Tommy D, Peter Velits, Richiie Porte and Ivan Basso isn't a match for that. When you wipe of the hometown boys, the Spanish riders for the Vuelta and the US boys for Colorado for overall contenders Colorado is better. No real sprinters at Colorado but I suspect the course is not set up for sprinters.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Frankly, yeah, I think the complete startlist, which includes the one day guys and sprinters is better. Also not that it means much but the Vuelta has the winners of 5 grand tours to only 2 for Colorado, 6 if you include the ultimate winner of the Vuelta. Anyway, Utah was good, except the winner...

Good news Fantasy Vuelta is up! I'll probably set up a league tomorrow if I have some time.

For the record, there is at least one blatant steal on velogames price list, like criminally bad.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I've been putting off finding out who won the Tour of Utah because in the complete programming sense of MSG+ they showed the first 4 stages at 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. the next day but they are showing Sunday's stage at 2-3:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Unisport has the Vuelta and Versus is covering Colorado so it will be nice.

Also Tintin is back! Rebellin wins the first of the Trittico Lombado, Tre Valli Varesine.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

I got my team in. But I seriously had to wing it as I am on vacation and don't have the time to make a serious effort.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

No time to really think about it, so here's my team.

Michele SCARPONI [20] LAM
Nicolas ROCHE [6] ALM
Joaquin RODRIGUEZ [22] KAT
Jurgen VAN DEN BROECK [16] OLO
Mark CAVENDISH [18] THR
Luis Leon SANCHEZ [6] RAB
Johan VANSUMMEREN [2] GRM
Ian STANNARD [2] SKY
Peter SAGAN [8] LIQ

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

rufus, I love the Sagan pick...I just couldn't pull the trigger myself! I'm super sprinter heavy for the Vuelta, as I usually am.

Michele SCARPONI [20] LAM
Tony MARTIN [10] THR
Igor ANTON [20] EUS
Steven KRUIJSWIJK [10] RAB
Mark CAVENDISH [18] THR
Marcel KITTEL [2] SKS
Daniel MARTIN [6] GRM
Tom-Jelte SLAGTER [2] RAB
Daniele BENNATI [12] LEO

But seriously does George know who Kittel is? Has his seen him this year? He likely gets rolled by Cav, but he is still worth more than two points, right?

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

As usual I'm too cheap to buy Cav, I'll probably regret it. :)

I opted to skip him this time too since he didn't do too well for me in either the Giro or the Tour de Suisse. Plus I always wonder with the sprinters in the Vuelta how long will they stay? I opted to use the points I saved to take Wiggo and Sagan so hopefully won't regret it.

Re: 2011 Cycling thread.

Wiggins, Anton, Menchov, Rodriguez, Haedo, Kittel, Sagan, Van Avermaet, and Van Summeran.
