2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Here's the trick for 4 16 team superconferences.

Who goes to the PAC-12? The only interesting group would be the UT/OU/OSU/TT setup and I don't see why Texas would move at this point. But let's say they go. Who are the teams the Big Ten takes to get to 16 in this scenario? Kansas...Rutgers, Syracuse, Notre Dame? Ugly.

If the Big Ten wanted to go from 12-16, they probably want the ACC to implode: Maryland, UVA, UNC, Duke or something like that. The PAC-12 is boned in a scenario like that as the Big XII has strengthened itself with other ACC teams at that point.

I don't see either conference going past 12 for the next couple of decades, if ever.

Agreed. There's a lot of pieces that would have to fall the right directions to have four viable 16 team conferences.

Why tie the football conference to other sports conferences? After all, we're talking serious money here! If the BCS can find 64 like minded greedy schools, then they'll do it. The networks, sponsors and conferences will prostitute themselves to get the monetary tie-ins.

Everyone else can play 1-AA.

The problem with that would be the idea of conference rivalries and such. You can get that in 12 to 16 team conference where you're at least seeing everybody on a fairly regular basis, and would have the chance to hurl the same insults back and forth at them. And it wouldn't hurt if the other school is just another state over, which is of course a state full of idiots. Now if you start getting matchups like Florida vs Washington, So Cal vs. BC, where they maybe see each other once every two decades, it just wouldn't be as much fun.

You don't need 4 16's. You get 4 12's and a single 16. That gets you to 64. 8 team playoff, 5 conference champs and 3 at-larges.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

I think you end in the low 70's for teams if you have 5 conferences.

No, they can still be I-A. After all, the big teams need to fill four non-conference home games. Four conferences for the big boys each with a minor-league conference in the MAC/Sun Belt/WAC/MWC (it's just about how they have it now anyway).

You don't have to have league alliances for all sports, just football. Who cares about X-Country, LAX or hockey? Just break the football teams into four conferences. The conference alignments for bouncyball and the like can remain intact. There's so much money around college football it just seems inevitable.

Four Conferences
Atlantic
Gulf
Great Lakes
Pacific

Put your 64 into one of those conferences.

Certainly true. A 8 team playoff fits better whether you have four, five, or six major conferences.

I saw this elsewhere, and I thought I would share it with you guys. Hell, I think every **** prima donna in college athletics should be required to read this......

Background:

**Georgia Bulldog coach Mark Richt dismissed star sophomore running back Isaiah Crowell following his arrest on felony weapons charges. This was the third or fourth incident involving the talented but troubled player.
**One of Crowell's teammates, Cornelius Washington, posted his reaction on Facebook. Washington talked about fickle fans and how tough student athletes have it these days.
**Washington's post prompted a rant by a Georgia fan who uses the screen name Mojo. The rant was also posted on Facebook under Mojo's real name.
**The rant has gone viral...reprinted on sports message boards across the country, about a 100 at last count. Mojo has also been invited to appear on various talk shows. Comments are about 90% in support of Mojo. Fans from Clemson, LSU and other schools say the rant applies to student athletes at their school as well.
**Washington has issued an apology of sorts, probably written by the Georiga PR department.

MOJO's quick summary:

CornWash - you crackers don't know our struggles
MoJo - nigga please, **** - I ate my own boogers just to survive
(((break for July 4th)))
Cornwash - **** pops, my bad.. I had no idea
MoJo - no sweat

Warning: When Mojo rants, he rants

What college is this? I don't think it's Liberty - there would be blue there if it was. It does remind me of my son's wedding cake.

Colored fields are hideous. Can't stand them. But, I'm surprised more teams don't go to them, as it provides extra home field advantage. Your players are used to playing on the colored field, while the opponents have to get used to it.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

My old man said Syracuse ought to go to an Orange field. I couldn't believe it when he said it.

Texas-San Antonio was thinking about putting orange turf in the Alamodome for their move to FBS. Thank goodness they didn't. Maryland was also rumored to be going with black turf, but that didn't go through either.

Also, that's too bad about the B1G-Pac12 agreement, I was really looking forward to that. That article only mentioned football though, so I'm hoping they keep the alliance for other sports. The only Pac 12 teams I remember MSU playing recently in non-con for basketball are UCLA (2004 or something) and Arizona (I think even earlier).

On the plus side, the hockey games will be cakewalks.
