Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

I agree, but you look at the fans Michigan can bring, and the general name rec of their program as compared to Stanford, and you see where this is going.

Of course, they have to beat OSU to even make it a conversation, so we'll see.

What if Wisconsin beats MSU...you think they'd take UM over MSU?

Alton, thanks for clearing that up. I actually brought that up a while back but somehow forgot that part of it.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

If I'm not mistaken, when UCLA loses to USC and Utah beats Colorado...Utah will be in the title game?

Not if Arizona State beats Cal. In that scenario, it's 3 teams at 5-4 and ASU has the tiebreaker.

I doubt that any 3 loss team from the B1G will be high enough in the BCS to get consideration for an at-large bid.

Apparently EVERY defense in the SEC is NFL caliber considering that HALF the teams in the league are in the bottom 25 in total offense. While I don't doubt that Bama and LSU are among the top teams in the nation, I wonder if they are undefeated partially becauce of how weak the rest of the SEC is.

There are a lot of mediocre/bad teams in the SEC, but based off what I've seen, I really do think LSU and Alabama are the two best teams out there.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

I'm hoping Georgia beats GT and then a one loss SEC team in the SEC title game. So, go Arkansas this Friday.

Let's say that the higher ranked team wins every game from here on out. The Bowl Bids would look something like this--

BCS Championship: #1 LSU (13-0) v #2 Alabama (11-1)
Rose: Michigan State (11-2) v Oregon (11-2)
Fiesta: Oklahoma State (11-1) v [pick 2]
Sugar: [pick 1] v [pick 3]
Orange: Virginia Tech (12-1) v [pick 4]

Pick #3 and Pick #4 will almost certainly be Houston (13-0) and the Big East Champion, whomever that might be. Stanford, at 11-1, would almost certainly be pick #1 or #2. The question is who gets the other at large selection: Michigan (10-2)? Kansas State (10-2)? Certainly not a 9-3 Oklahoma after losing to Oklahoma State, or a 10-3 Clemson after losing the ACC Championship game, and probably not Boise State (11-1) either. I would think that Michigan would get picked first by the Sugar Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl would obviously take Stanford over Kansas State, and the Sugar would certainly prefer nearby, undefeated Houston over the Big East "winner".

So we would have this, if the higher-ranked teams win all remaining games:

BCS Championship: #1 LSU (13-0) v #2 Alabama (11-1)
Rose: Michigan State (11-2) v Oregon (11-2)
Fiesta: Oklahoma State (11-1) v Stanford (11-1)
Sugar: Michigan (10-2) v Houston (13-0)
Orange: Virginia Tech (12-1) v Big East Champion

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Right. Like J.D., I was under the impression the SEC would be getting 3. Having been corrected, I agree with the scenario as you present it.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Miami announces that they're forgoing a bowl this year one day after becoming bowl eligible.

So, yes, that does mean that the U is doing the right thing while Delany's legends and leaders suggest laughable punishments (5 scholly's over 3 years) or play cover up.

How much of that is doing the right thing and how much is just not wanting to go to Shreveport or somewhere similar?

Another thing to consider, if Stanford sneaks into the top 4 they have to be taken.

Same record as Ohio State. *shrug*

The difference is Miami is convinced that their punishment is going to include a bowl ban, while Ohio State is still trying to pin everything on Tressel and their last suggested punishment to the NCAA proves it (loss of 2-2-1 scholarships and probation)

Anything that blows up in Jim Delany's pious "we create Legends and Leaders" face like this entire OSU thing since he whored himself out to keep their Sugar Bowl bid by letting Pryor et al play makes me chuckle.

Well, considering that Miami had just about everything other than kiddy rape going down under its program, a bowl ban is something they should expect. Hell, that booster was hiring hookers and strippers for the kids, and even paid for that abortion without even checking in with the kid about it. Why she went along with that idea, I don't know. It would have been kinda funny to have both Ohio State and Miami go play each other in say the Humanitarian bowl, or in the This Bowl game won't count for either of us bowl.

Rich Rodriguez to Arizona. Press conference tomorrow.
He'll raise them up, so they can stand on mountains;
He'll raise them up, to walk on stormy seas;
They are strong, when they are on his shoulders;
He'll raise them up, to more than they can be.
