Regarding North Dakota: You are only allowed to use the IceBreaker as exempt games once every four years. You can play in it as often as you want, but only allowed to use it as an exempt game once in four years. Michigan got in trouble regarding that issue a few years ago.

Alabama-Huntsville plays at Merrimack Sunday, November 27th.

Why is there nothing in the NCAA manual regarding this? Do you have a source for this information?

Obviously they've released, and either way they're not over the limit, but would still like to know where the NCAA says this for future reference, in case I am asked about this by someone else.

You're taking this way too seriously. I'm only on here to get information on schedules as I always go to other games besides my own team's and like to see NC opponents for the other teams in the area. I'm not interested enough to go do it, but if you really want, look through college hockey news archives or USCHO archives. A few years ago, Michigan was forced to play two less games than permitted b/c the year before they had played two too many games. The reason being is they had thought they could exempt the ice breaker and they had done so recently.

This is not true, although it once was (until the 2007-08 season). You can see the 2006/07 NCAA Manual (Bylaw 17.14.5.4) http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/MAN0607.pdf limits several "certified" tournaments to once every 4 years. This group included the icebreaker. For the 2007/08 season, the NCAA started phasing out all exemptions except the Icebreaker, and also eliminated the once-in-4-years rule.

That was not the problem. They did play in the 2000 Icebreaker, and they did exempt the games correctly. The issue is that they played in another exempt tournament (the Nissan Cup in Alaska) the same year and thought they could exempt those games as well. There was a limit of one exempt tournament per year, though, so they were wrong. They could exempt the game against Alaska-Anchorage as a game in Alaska against a school in Alaska, but they also played Merrimack in Alaska and were not allowed to exempt that game even though they thought they could. As a result, Michigan played one extra game in 2000/01, and when the mistake was discovered late in the 2000/01 season, Michigan was given the option of forfeiting one future game that season, or having their total permitted for 2001/02 reduced by 2 games. Michigan took the second option, obviously. It had nothing to do with the "once-in-4-years" rule, though.

Hockey East has released a composite schedule but there appear to be errors on it. They have Niagara at UMass-Lowell on October 23. But Niagara's schedule is full already. The official UML site does not have that game listed so it must have been a proposed game that did not go through or perhaps it is next years 2012 game in return for the UML visit last year to Niagara.

it also has UMass playing at Providence and home against Vermont on Jan 7th. That's a tall task (and a UNH at Maine game from Friday March 2 was moved to Jan 7th, cough cough Fenway Park cough cough)

Thanks much. That would complete everyone. There are five teams with leftover games. Two Atlantic, one CCHA, one WCHA, and one independent. Technically the ivies are under the NCAA limit as well, but they have special rules.

Only one of them will be exempt, the other will count against the 34-game limit, similar to what UML and a few of the Ivy League schools have.
