2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

With a 300k base, I wonder what his assistants are bringing in. Either way, nice job by UND to hold on to Hakstol. Now, if we don't have #8 by the time this contract is up, we might have some issues. :)

The Herald article says they are splitting $263,000, although not necessarily even between them. It also says the pool will be increased 3% each year with their contracts renewed annually.

Good summary of Hakstol's contributions to Sioux Hockey in the FightingSioux.com article.

I especially liked the testementary evidence at the end of the article. Although winning number 8 would be nice it is good to hear such positive acolades regarding player development, unity, unselfish play, and teamwork.

"All of Hakstol's teams have been totally unified. Their unselfish play and teamwork is something that every team would like to have, vows to have, or pretends to have. North Dakota has it, and no other team matches the family-style unity of the Fighting Sioux." - Longtime WCHA writer John Gilbert

"They develop pro hockey players in North Dakota." - NBC analyst and former NHL coach Pierre McGuire

"There's no better place to go in college hockey in terms of a pro factory, a pro mindset, a pro mentality." - TSN analyst Bob McKenzie

"There's nothing like playing for Dave Hakstol. It's such a special place. You won't find it anywhere else." - Senior defenseman Ben Blood

"He treated all his players fairly, not the same, but he knew how to do that. Sometimes it's tough to play for coaches when they say or do different things in the same situations. But with him, you knew what you were getting or what he said was expected and consistent whether you played bad or good. He was gritty as a player and that's what UND is all about. He gets players to come to play when the big games are on the line." - Chicago Blackhawks captain and former UND All-American Jonathan Toews

"The folks in Grand Forks expect their hockey team to win; North Dakota did that this past season thanks to a masterful coaching job by Hakstol." - InsideCollegeHockey.com

"We all know it's (UND) a fantastic college. They groom their players for the National Hockey League." - Mike Sillinger, Edmonton Oilers Director of Player Development

He's almost as good as Woog.

He's almost as good as Woog.

The similarities are unfortunately quite similar. That being said, Woog had 14 years to never win the big one...if Hakstol completes his contract that would put him at UND for...14 years

I said it before, but I'll say it again...I am glad Hakstol is coming back, and I think he'll eventually get the monkey off his back (very few coaches (especially recently) can claim a national title won in their first 8 years of coaching). However, if at the end of this extension we're still sitting on 7 national titles, I will want a change.

I was in Amsterdam today, wearing my UND jacket, and a guy came up to me and said "hey Sioux, I'm class of '99"! :)

The pilot for my flight on Thursday from Vegas to Denver was a UND alum. Once he saw my Sioux shirt, he told the attendant that he would pay for any drinks I ordered. It was a good flight :D

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Kristo says he is returning for his senior season. From Brad's blog:

Danny Kristo is coming back for his senior season.

Kristo announced the news on his Twitter account this afternoon, saying: “Very excited to let everyone know that I will be playing for the Fighting Sioux next season #siouxwarriors”

Kristo tallied 45 points in 42 games last season and has 109 for his career.

The dynamic right winger should give UND a big offensive boost next season and there’s a good chance he will once again play alongside Corban Knight.

Hopefully Seth Jones passes on the WHL.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

If the rumors around Brock's reasoning for leaving are true, he has to be bummed out he's leaving knight and Kristo.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Will Kristo be a free agent this August since he will be four years from his NHL draft with the intention of returning to college for his Sr. year as a 1990 born player? Similar to what Blake Kessel of UNH did last year?

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

No. I believe you have to declare you are leaving school and not be enrolled in classes in order to become a free agent.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

@UNDMHockey: RT @SchlossmanGF: Among those who Kristo discussed his decision with: T.J. Oshie, Matt Frattin, Brad Malone, Ben Blood.

@CorbanKnight: Extremely happy to hear that my linemate and good friend @dkristo7 is returning for our senior season. Its gonna be even more memorable now!

@UNDMHockey: RT @TAT3MARI5: Excited knowing @dkristo7 will be back for his senior season! Always a fun guy to watch from the bench. #siouxseniors

Tate's is hilarious:p
