2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Random question since BU is visiting you guys next year: How much does a single game regular price ticket cost? Thanks in advance.

It depends on what "tier" they consider BU. Tickets usually range from $30-55 depending on the opponent. I would guess that because BU is considered a big name opponent, that they would be closer to the higher end. My SWAG: $45-50/ticket. Most likely though, there won't be an actual price until right before the season when the tickets go on sale.

Greene was also a roommate of Devils captain Zach Parise's

"[Greene] sent me a text after we won [to advance to the Final] saying, 'Congratulations, I won't talk to you until after the playoffs,'" Parise told NHL.com. "

"We probably won't talk through the series. I don't see that happening. But I don't think it's going to affect our friendship at all," said Greene, who doesn't disagree with Zajac's assessment of his old UND apartment. "It was college. I lived in a hockey house. It was an absolute dump. It wasn't on the messy side, it was a complete disaster. We didn't have a maid at any point."

So Kristo and Dell are still onboard? What's the deadline or point of no return for these guys to stay?

Kristo has announced he will be back for next season. The only player left to make a decision is Dell. I wouldn't be surprised if Dell leaves, and I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't find out until just before the season. Fortunately, we should be prepared for if/when he leaves.

Right now, the roster is as follows...

Forwards (16)
Danny Kristo
Corban Knight
Carter Rowney
Mark MacMillan
Michael Parks
Connor Gaarder
Stephane Pattyn
Brendan O'Donnell
Taylor Dickin
Rocco Grimaldi
Derek Rodwell
Colton St. Clair*
Drake Caggiula*
Bryn Chyzyk*
Coltyn Sanderson*
Mitch MacMillan** (coming in after Fall Semester)

Defensemen (8)
Nick Mattson
Dillon Simpson
Joe Gleason***
Derek Forbort
Andrew MacWilliam
Andrew Panzarella
Dan Senkbeil***
Jordan Schmaltz*

Goaltenders (4)
Aaron Dell
Tate Maris
Clarke Saunders**
Zane Gothberg*

* - Freshman
** - Transfer
*** - Can also play forward

FWIW, Here are the lines that I would like to see...

Kristo-Knight-Grimaldi
MacMillan-Rowney-Parks
St. Clair-Gaarder-O'Donnell
Chyzyk-Pattyn-Rodwell

MacWilliam-Mattson
Forbort-Gleason
Simpson-Schmaltz

That 1st line would be scary fast and very entertaining. The 2nd line would be very good also. It will be nice to see what St. clair and O'Donnell can do. The Herald reported that MacWilliam had surgery due to a separated shoulder. He may or may not be ready when the season starts. Hopefully he will be ready.

Just a reminder to all you "yes" voters out there. As the saying goes, "vote early and vote often" tomorrow. :D

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

The results aren't final yet, but with about half the precincts reporting, the Fighting Sioux nickname is gone. It isn't close - the margin is over 2 to 1.

And I think it's more to do with the "we're not going to win this battle, so let's just vote it out now and get it over with" than actually supporting the name.

At least from a somewhat outsider's perspective.

I think the support for the name was still very strong but people realized that keeping it would do too much damage to the university.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

It sounds like a group supporting the nickname is pushing for a Constitutional amendment for this fall. Whether successful or not, I don't see how this can be constructive esp after the referendum came out so soundly against.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Dear UND faithful,

Please don't replace the Fighting Sioux nickname. IMO, it is better to have no nickname than a stupid replacement name. Go the "Unofficial" route!

The reporter must be a UMTC grad.

He most certainly is...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/aaron-blake/2011/05/23/AFPeNbAH_page.html

"Aaron Blake covers national politics at the Washington Post, where he writes regularly for the Fix, the Post’s top political blog. A Minnesota native and summa cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota, Aaron has also written about politics for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and The Hill newspaper. Aaron and his wife, Danielle, live in Annandale, Va."

We may want to verify that summa cum laude status :p:D:D

This has been my stance for years. I don't think it will happen though. They will have a "cooling off" period of 2-3 years before they will pick a new name.

I just hope they don't pick something as silly and idiotic as a squirrel or a gopher. We learned our mistake 80 years ago, and hopefully we don't repeat it. :p:D:D

As for the Constitutional Amendment, I'm hearing now that they are thinking about waiting until 2014 to try and get that done. I don't see it happening, and if it does, I expect it to be slaughtered at the polls. While I love the nickname and its history, it was time for it to go. It is a bittersweet day, but it was the right thing to do for the university as a whole. I'm glad that North Dakotans did the right thing yesterday.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

I think the biggest mistake UND could do is take a soft mascot (nor something esoteric like 'the wild'). Hopefully they take something with bite.
