2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

No chance.

This is a huge demotion, but likely the only move he could make considering the circumstances.

Getting a head coaching gig in the USHL is something that any #2 assistant on any college coaching staff could get.

And what, exactly, are the circumstances? Why is he blackballed from further career growth in professional hockey?

Wow. You really under-estimate the USHL in a big way or just don't have a clue.

Not true, especially if the only coach they were interested in was Cary Eades. Looks like a win-win situation for Eades and the Stampede. Last season the Stampede finished 16 of 16 teams but they are under new management now. They badly needed a proven winner like Eades, and jumped at the chance to hire Eades. Have a feeling Eades is no worse off financially, and the Stampede gets an excellent coach and recruiter in return.

Reminds me of when Dean Blais coached the Fargo Force a few years ago and took a start-up USHL team into the league championships. Looks like a great win/win situation for Eades and the Stampede.

Will be interesting to see if Eades developed Stampede players will become UND recruits in the near future.

I think you nailed that. Heard, albeit second hand that the money was very comparable to what he was making at UND. I would think continued success would give me another shot at DI in the near future.

And Greenbayguy has just seemed to have outted himself as Cary Eades.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Guy goes from losing his job at UND to getting one almost instantly that pays extremely well and some people think this is a fail? There are no head coaching job openings in D1 right now. Eades does have a family, needs to earn a living etc. Seems like a no brainer.

Oh no, it's a failure. Could you imagine, a top flight coach deciding to coach junior hockey after having a big coaching job? Maybe we could ask Dale Hunter if that kind of thing ever happens with quality coaches who still have a career ahead of them?:confused:

Seems to me that Eades outgrew his position at UND. He was well respected among the players and was becoming more and more involved as a spokesperson for the team. I can understand how Eades wanted to stay, and we wanted him to stay. But there can be only one head coach. I'm guessing that although Eades may had some reservations, it was just time for Eades to find his own Head Coaching position. And now he is a head coach.

I have a lot of respect for the USHL. It is the main organization responsible for the development of US born hockey players. I have to admit that perhaps the Sioux Falls Stampede and the USHL needed him more than UND needed him.

He will be greatly missed, and hopefully the door is always open for him if UND ever has the need for a Head Coach.

Eades will be missed. But evidently he seems to be keeping busy with his new job, especially since the USHL main draft is on May 22. Here is what Eades tweeted regarding the upcoming draft.

Might have 2 go C a Dr. 2moro 2 remove the phone that is attached 2 my ear !

Eades will be missed.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Didn't see an alumni thread so I am posting this here.

As a Sioux alumni I can't help but cheer for the NJ Devils to go all the way this year. Thought that having Toews accept the cup for the Blackhawks was great. But seeing what Parise is doing for the Devils is unbelievable. Parise is certainly making a name for himself in the New York area, and Ranger fans certainly must be taking notice that perhaps Parise is the best player on the ice.

Talk about leading by example, immediately after the game 3 loss captain Parise refused to speak to the media, but then in game 4, his on ice performance speaks volumes, 2 goals and an assist. What an effort!!! Glad to see that Parise is finally getting the recognition he deserves from the New York media.

There were a lot of WCHA players on the ice for that game. it is very nice to see compared to 30 years ago when there were so few.

Yes. It is good to see so many WCHA players in the playoffs. But the Gophers, Sioux, and Badgers sent a lot of players to the pros in the early 1980's. Early 1980's was sort of a golden era of WCHA college hockey. After the US won olympic gold a lot of top recruits wanted to play US college hockey before turning pro.

For example, year after the 1980 olympics, James Patrick from Winnipeg was a 1981 first round pick by the Rangers, 9th pick overall. He played at North Dakota then played for Canada in the Olympics.

He certainly was a quality hockey player.

WCHA Second All-Star Team (1982)
WCHA Freshman of the Year (1982)
NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team (1982)
NCAA Championship (1982)
WCHA First All-Star Team (1983)

Incoming class for 2012-2013:

http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205430279

The incoming class includes National Letter of Intent signees Drake Caggiula, Bryn Chyzyk, Zane Gothberg, Coltyn Sanderson and Jordan Schmaltz, as well as Alabama-Huntsville transfer Clarke Saunders.

Relatively small incoming class: 3 forwards; 2 goalies; and only 1 defensemen. Looks like only 2 of the 6 new players are US born (Gothberg and Schmaltz).

He did??? Those of us who were in Grand Forks at the time seem to recall him leaving after two seasons. :)

I was in Grand Forks at the time. I thought he stayed in school to graduate. I was mistaken, must have been someone else that stayed all four years.
