2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

My bad. Mixed up the Elmira/Norwich vs RIT/Amherts match-up combo's. Fixed the post. The gist of the message in the post still the same.

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

I feel like it's so hard to arrange those top teams, and I really wish we could see RF or GAC play an Eastern team or two early in the season, rather than relying on the old "GAC beats St. Thomas - St. Thomas beats Trintity - Trinity loses close to RIT, therefore here's how GAC would do against RIT" line of reasoning. It's just too much to remember all the time!

1) RIT
2) Norwich
3) Middlebury
4) Amherst
5) GAC
6) Elmira
7) River Falls
8) Plattsburgh
9) Concordia (Minnesota)
10) St. Scholastica

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

I've dealing a good deal of stuff the past month month and a half that it caused me to totally neglect compiling the list. If someone else wants to take it over be my guest. I am sorry for starting this and not seeing it through to the end of the season.

I think in the east you can pair any of my 2-7 on the ice and it is pretty much a toss up in any given contest.

I believe that the top 7 can be mixed and matched and this is pure opinion. While GA has a strong record, I believe they would have a lesser won/loss % if they were in the NESCAC, ECAC W and maybe ECAC E. I think the tougher opponents out east is what helps the Eastern teams come NCAA playoffs, as is exhibited in the records of the teams from the West in the NCAA's. GA even struggled when they hosted 2 years ago. Perhaps someone from the West will prove me wrong, but for right now history is on my side. This is solely my opinion and is not meant to fire up a debate, I just wanted to explain why I put GA farther down the list, rather than just putting someone with a 11-0-1 record in 6th place with no explanation.

I tried to put Gustavus higher but I keep running into the historical context problem. They keep rolling through the West and Justice piles up impressive stats, then they get to the FF and implode. Too bad Amherst isn't playing them this week.

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

1. Gustavus (only undefeated team)
2. Norwich
3. Elmira
4. RIT
5. Plattsburgh
6. River Falls
7. Amherst
8. Concordia-MN
9. Middlebury
10. UWS

I don't really think Gustavus should be #1 but they are the only unbeaten team. I do think they warrant higher than 7th though. The poll isn't supposed to be about how they have fared in the past, but how they are doing right now.

Re: 2011-2012 DIII Opinion Poll

I'll take over compiling for Tweedle Dee when I have the time. I have to work a basketball game tomorrow(Tuesday) so it most likely won't get done til wednesday as I won't get home from School until 9-9:30.

I'll count any polls submitted by noon my time...which would be 2 on the east coast.

...wait...what? disenfranchised again (I took you at your word)....but thanks for picking up the slack, GoJ :)

I hope your gals are winning this year (bball) -- I just don't see how you can be passionate about such two distinctly differing sports -- their nets are so tiny and got gaping holes in them and that earth ball is so honking huge that I could stop it with my face
