2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Thanks, but that won't do it either. I'm trying to switch to ATT U-Verse by Friday. They don't have NESN either, but they at least have Fox Sports North.

The FSN broadcast crew isn't too bad. You're obviously going to see a pro-Gopher bias, but they are far from over-the-top when it comes to being homers. They'll credit your team for quality play, and call out the Gophers if they are playing poorly.

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Any injury updates?

Also reflecting, BU lost to PC, which was by all accounts a bad loss. Honestly, they had to be overlooking that game and looking to Denver. So wouldn't it be rational to think our guys really found it hard to get excited abount playing 17 year olds with Minnesota right ahead. So, given our youth and the way things set up, I think we will be ok, there will be some patches, but there is some cream on this team that will rise.

Also, our play-by-play commentator will blow a load in his pants everytime YOUR team scores, assuming Vermont scores. ;) It'll make you feel like you're watching a Vermont broadcast, if only for a minute.

Bummer, I don't get NESN on Comcast here in Atlanta.
I found both games listed on Comcast here in Seattle:
- Friday's game on Fox College Sports - Central (FCSC)
- Sunday's game on Fox College Sports - Atlantic (FCSA).

well-that was an interesting game???-vermont was just overwhelmed.they did skate alot better in the third period.could someone explain to mewhy we can't seem to pass the puck and when they do-they don't seemto be able to receive the puck. minny never seemed to miss a pass.hats off to minny -an exceptional skating and very skilled team.let's hope for more cohesive play on sunday--the freshmen got a good introduction to the speed of the college game in a hostile building.on to sunday

I was there, and from what I saw Vermont has far more skill than they showed tonight, until it was too late. The opening minutes were especially ugly, as they committed one turnover after another - really bad ones that you don't see often at the D1 level. I'm sure they'll rebound and play much better on Sunday - the extra day to regroup could be just what they need. I don't think they'll win, but I do think they'll make it a much closer game.

That was my exact observation!! And in the first two periods they kept falling down untouched???? Seems Sneddon needs to do some passing a skating drills and get back to the basics. Minny looked fantastic. Some of that due to the lack of play by Vermont but they all were fast and could handle the puck beautifully. Even their 4th line was skating circles around us. They always had their sticks in the passing lanes.

I will give VT some leeway as it was there first game of the year. At times they had some puck control and passing. Regroup for Sunday. I think it is actually a good thing the game was delayed a day.

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

Well at least it was not as bad as a few of those opening home losses we had in the past that got up to 8-0.

The Cats came out and did a good job of hitting Minnesota players, to bad we couldnt hit the net with any pucks.

Sneddon said it right Minnesota players showed more confidence in everything they did. Having 4 more games helps but being 4-0 in
those games makes it so much bigger.

The PP was as usual very weak, large ice size I think works against Vermont as you need very skilled quick passers and we have yet
to be that team, I have seen Vermont play at UNH maybe a dozen times and we never do great on the PP there...even worse than other
places.

I like Brickley using his speed on the rush but to often when he crossed the line he was alone facing 3 or 4 whire shirts. Liked some of what
i saw from Reynolds in the Off zone but there was not much else to get excited about yet.

We will learn alot about this team by how they come out Sunday. Even a 2 goal loss would be a step forward if they play better.

I will agree about everything else, but I thought we looked like a bunch of pansies out there. It looked way more to me like the Cats were pushing and slapping but I didn't see anybody throw some good body checks in there. Even Brickley wasn't his normal self. Admitted I watched 40 minutes, but I expect them to be much more physical then they were. Maybe it just seemed that way because they spent the majority of the time chasing gophers they never seemed to be able to catch...

The way the cats look on offense I don't really expect to see them score a goal until Novmber. The PP looks awful as usual. Can't we hire a consultant to help that out?

What else can you say? They look awful

Agree the power play didn't look good but, overall, I don't think things are as dire as everyone seems to believe. It was their first game of the season, against a very good team, on that very good team's home ice. The first two periods were dismal, but I actually thought they played pretty well in the third. It seemed like the finally got fed up with how things were going, they loosened up a bit, and started taking it to Minnesota. If they can do more of that today, the game will be a lot closer.

Anyone have thoughts on Madore? There's no question in my mind that Sneddon will give him the start today, but should he? I don't know that we're best served by having one goalie play every minute of every game. Vezzano looked quite good--I say give him the start and let him get some experience this season for when Madore's gone.

McCarthy is back today. Curious to see what he adds. I expect a lot.

So are you saying Vermont's season is already over or you just think they should rotate goalies?

No, if you look at my other posts, I definitely don't think the season's already over. Maybe not rotate goalies, but give Vezzano a start every now and again.

Re: 2011-12 Vermont Season Thread (Vezina & Conn Smyth trophy edition)

.... More weak goals. Not all Madore's fault, but he should have had at least one.

Nice bounce-back today fellas. It's been a great game thus far!
